    Toronto's hidden rivers

Continuing from the discussion on the Aura thread (http://www.urbantoronto.ca/showthread.php?p=361765#post361765), I thought it worthwhile to note a couple of things. Firstly, it could be plain old groundwater (plenty of that in the old lacustrine plain of Lake Iroqouis and elsewhere) filling...

There is an old thread with only one post called "Toronto's Hidden Rivers" in "Toronto Issues" located at: http://www.urbantoronto.ca/showthread.php?p=60383#post60383. If anyone wishes to continue this discussion about old watercourses, acquifers, groundwater, subsidence (or lack thereof) etc...

You make a very good point and one which I should have considered myself. Let's all watch the excavation at Aura and see what is disclosed. I, for one, will be very interested to see how much water is flowing through the site, as these sorts of things interest me (as you can no doubt tell) . ...

My understanding has always been that the real Taddle Creek (the St. Patrick reach) ran under the Eaton Centre. See: http://lostrivers.ca/stpatrickr.htm Other tributaries of other creeks that fed into Taddle are north up Yonge from that. See: http://lostrivers.ca/mossparkcreek.htm However, for...

I believe that the main branch of Taddle Creek crossed from west to east further south of this site, closer to the middle of the Eaton Centre, but that there were some smaller tributaries north of this that fed into Taddle further downstream and could be related to the necessity for a watertight...

The only activity I've noticed is red "Danger - Do Not Enter" tape plastered over various openings and orange pylons on the platform at the east end. There may be more activity at the west end.

Workers are now pouring the floor for the eastern side of the current floor. Forms for the next floor have been fully constructed over the western side that was poured last week.

Workers are pouring the floor for the west side of the next floor. Formwork is fully up for the east side and I expect pouring of that will take place in the next couple of business days. I don't know if we are on 18 or 19 now, as I may have missed a floor at the end of December. Anyway, we...

^Ha ha! It's a franchise of this chain: http://www.backrub.ca/web/index.aspx. KPMG has been moved in for some time now. I'm confused, too, as to why the signs aren't up yet.

More establishments have opened up in the concourse. In addition to Timmy's and the back rub place, there is now a bagel shop and a Second Cup with a "cozy" electric fireplace right next to a fully transparent glass partition wall. (Snuggle up by the warmth of the radiant electric glow with...

. . . and the lead bank financing it is Austrian. Come on, people, read some economics text books and stop writing comments that read like those made by protectionist trade-unionists or starry-eyed idealistic university students. Global trade increases wealth and prosperity and raises living...

Yes, I believe we are. I've been counting each floor as it is constructed and that's the floor I think they are on. Of course, the parking garage "level 7" and some other floors had complicated structures and varied ceiling heights, so "17th floor" needs to be taken with a grain of salt.

I don't think it will clash. Remember that the heritage building (the Bishop's Block) will have to be rebuilt at the corner of Adelaide and just north of that will be the drive court and drop-off area. The Bishop's Block will act as a nice foil to the other buildings across the street and the...

There was a slowdown late last week and earlier this week building the forming for the next floor. However, workers have been frantically putting down re-bar, post-tensioning cables and electrical conduit on the western side for the past day and a half and it now looks like they might pour the...

Well, if it's a hospital, it's one of the nicest around. Check me in, as I quite like this "hospital." Unlike many parts of the PATH, there is only really one large support pillar out in the middle of a walkway (near the entrance to Scotia) and so the feeling of openness is increased. Wait...
