    YRT/Viva Construction Thread (Rapidways, Terminals)

No, they truly did manage traffic exceptionally well. Maybe you're referring to the last two weeks where they've had no choice but to really restrict lanes to do their paving work, but up until now it has been handled very well. They work well into the night (and often times 24/7) just to...

    Richmond Hill Yonge Line 1 North Subway Extension | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

Amen. Hallelujah! Generally, I don't find discussions that revolve around who pays what tax to be worthwhile. Transit is public. Are you going to penalize tourists who come to the city because they didn't pay taxes to build the infrastructure? To those who seem to constantly forget, for the...

So how about you compare apples to apples? You just compared an entire region (encompassing multiple towns and cities) to a subsect of one city (granted, a megacity). Compare even just the immediate vicinity of Dufferin from the West to Bayview to the East from Steeles upwards to Major Mac and...

It's comments like this that make me fume. "Location: Downtown" You don't say? Try to make it a little less obvious next time, please. "hinterland"? Have you ever been north of Steeles or are you just imagining farm fields as far as the eye can see? There is a world beyond Toronto proper...

That's cool to hear about the green line. I kind of wish I was able to go to the event too but I had to be at work. More transit advocates need to attend these things because I find the anti transit folk find more ways of showing up to these things and skewing the opinions in their favor or just...

York Region Transit: Viva service thread

I think Viva was one of the rare moments of "Let's spend money on some long term planning" and I'm thankful for it. We need more of this kind of "If we build it, they will come" mentality. It's the same mentality that got us the subway track to be build on the Bloor Viaduct even before they had...

York Region Transit: Viva service thread

In regards to the detour, it's because of the GO station connection. Viva tries to connect to as many transit hubs as possible, and so they wanted to make the connection to Unionville GO. As for the point of the rapidway, the intent is to transform Hwy 7 into more of a destination in of itself...

York Region Transit: Viva service thread

Agreed. I think I'd feel a lot less annoyed by the Centre St routing if it didn't waste all that time going in circles and waiting for lights and mall drivers just to pick up and drop off 5 people. And I'm generally annoyed by the Atkinson stop because most of the time it's just a bunch of...

    Richmond Hill Yonge Line 1 North Subway Extension | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

That's really odd because I distinctly remember going to some of the public consultations about this a few years ago and instead of Elgin Mills, they were talking about a potential future extension to 16th Ave (or, similarly, to build to there from the get-go). I guess they realized that by the...

    Richmond Hill Yonge Line 1 North Subway Extension | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

No... I think you're wrong. You're comparing an island with a few select ways in/out to a block of solid land with a grid-based road system and multiple north/south regional transit lines already in place, with a major 4 lane highway nearby and another one not too far away either that goes even...

    Richmond Hill Yonge Line 1 North Subway Extension | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

Exactly. Before Toronto amalgamated, it was composed of multiple mini-cities, most with their own downtown. I think people forget that. After amalgamation, sure, we call the financial district "downtown" and Eglinton "uptown", and Sheppard/Finch as "North York Centre", but in reality they are...

I'm sorry but that's kind of pathetic reasoning. I'm sure the 416ers should at least be aware that anything north of Steeles is not paid by their taxes at all. As stated already, York Region and Ontario cover the costs for those areas. With the typical 416 attitude of "905ers shouldn't be...

York Region Transit: Viva service thread

I'm not objecting to the building of the subway just because of fares. I'm glad something is being built in this region. However, I'm merely pointing out that while it may prove to be useful for people originating their rides in TTC zone, it will be of no use for York Region citizens (you know...

York Region Transit: Viva service thread

Maybe, but once the rapidways are in place, Purple will no longer turn left on Keele. It will continue on 7 until VCC so that people have to transfer onto the TTC subway to go down to York. And those people will have to pay double-fare because the subway will be TTC fare zone. Because of that...

York Region Transit: Viva service thread

I used to take Viva Purple. During the strike I started taking the GO bus instead. I pay a fraction more and I get to my destination in less than 50% of the time Purple takes. I don't think I'm going back unless there is a GO service interruption. Purple has just gotten too bogged down by...

York Region Transit: Viva service thread

So far it looks like it only shows live data when you click specifically on a stop on the map. But if you go and set a destination and use the directions feature, it looks like it just goes back to regular old scheduled times. At least that's what I saw with my very brief testing.

Are we already forgetting that part of the RHC growth plan is a huge redevelopment of that entire big box plaza into a residential/commercial split development? Man, people on here have terrible memory. It's as simple as this, guys: York Region wants to grow by increasing density instead of...

Definitely. It's such a industrial wasteland in that area similar to the Langstaff area that is currently primed to be converted to a 50,000 person development. I believe the south-east corner is already getting prepared for about 8 or 9 condo developments. Planning to keep the possibility of...

York Region Transit: Viva service thread

I get where you're coming from, but I guess I never really minded the blocky engine area in the Van Hools since the rest of the bus seemed so well designed. Low floors, thin walls, huge windows letting tons of sunlight in. I don't feel like a third class citizen while riding the Van Hools...

York Region Transit: Viva service thread

I loved the Van Hools and I still prefer them to the Novas. The primary issue is that Van Hool seemed to have made better use of space and didn't bother wasting internal cabin space to accommodate the mechanics below the passengers. The new Novas seem to just route whatever mechanics they need...
