GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

Photos are of track construction just east of Union, taken today. They have been working for about the past two months (mostly weekends all through the night), moving around from one track to another. Does anyone know what they are doing and how it fits into the GO/Union expansion? Thanks.

    Condo soundproofing

    B) I am in a new condo downtown, and can't hear any talking from other units. However, if people play music loudly, it is quite noticeable (mostly the bass beat). This seems to transmit quite a distance through the building - i.e, sometimes when I hear it in my apartment, if I go in the hall, I...

    Street Car vs. Bus

One exception would be when there is something blocking the streetcar tracks, like an accident, or someone parking too close to the tracks in winter - in that case, a bus could go around.

Toronto non-mall retail (Odds & Ends)

I agree - if retail spaces are not for lease, then they are occupied by rather boring businesses. Either necessities (dry cleaner, dental clinic, convenience store), or chain fast-food restaurants. The *population* density in the area certainly seems quite dense, and most of the units appear...

Who would buy a 500~550 sqft condo?

Does anyone know whether this condo shrinkage has also occurred in other cities? It seems to make sense that condo sizes would fluctuate with affordability (price/income ratio). In Toronto, affordability has gradually decreased since 2000. Prior to that, there had been a sharp drop in...

Which bus routes need articulated buses?

Hamilton is using articulated buses on the bus rapid transit routes 10 (B-Line Express) and 20 (A-Line Express). I was told by GO Transit that there are constraints on the routes that can be used by the double-deckers, i.e. they use them on 407/403 routes but couldn't use them on the QEW...

    Noisy Trucks

I rent a condo at 18 Yonge facing east, and for the past few weeks, for much of the entire night, they've been doing construction on the railway tracks and making infernal beeping noises. Anyway, I find it helps to turn up the ventilation fan in my bedroom to make a "white noise" that drowns out...

    Noisy Trucks

Does that mean that the "residential area" noise prohibitions apply, or that the area is exempt from them? If the latter, then that would be good to know before buying a condo!

Chinatown East: Zhong Hua Men Gate

Good idea about the park, Torontovibe! I would be interested to hear the comments of those knowledgeable about "feng shui", as it involves very definite ideas about the significance of how objects are positioned...

    Toronto One Rainsford | ?m | 6s | The Riedel Group | Richard Ziegler

It is hard to tell from the architect's sketch how nice it will look, as the choice of exterior materials used will have a big effect... Thanks for the photos, SimonP. Now I'm fascinated by the history of this "mystery structure" at 1864. Averagejoe, what made you think it isn't a house...

    Toronto One Bedford | ?m | 32s | Lanterra | KPMB

Did you mean that they have now put in glass that is a bronze/copper colour? I couldn't see any glass installed on any of the photos on the thread...

Toronto CityPlace: Montage + Neo (Concord Adex, 47 + 16s, KPMB)

I rent at 18 Yonge, and although, at least in my unit, the room sizes are quite small and the fixtures and finishes fairly basic, I have had no problems in the unit or the building with anything breaking or not working.
