    Restaurant Comings & Goings

I'm not hugely surprised that the one on Bay closed. To do well in that area, you really need to either be a full-service restaurant or a Tim's (Tim's do well everywhere). Non-PATH-connected standard fast food places seem to struggle in the core (non-big chain places, such as Burrito Boyz, can...

    Restaurant Comings & Goings

Anyone know what's up with Quizno's? I have noticed three closed franchises in the past week (Yonge south of College, Bay south of Queen, and the Ajax store on Bayly.) I haven't checked to see if the TD Centre store is still going. Their website gives no indication of a pullout from the...

Miscellany Toronto Photographs: Then and Now

Although I mourn what has been lost, it makes what remains all the more special. I am found of some of the remaining old storefronts east of Yonge, the Hockey Hall of Fame building (once a BMO branch), Commerce Court North, the Confederation Life building, One King, my beloved Canada Permanent...

    Toronto 335 Yonge | 55.2m | 16s | Lalani | Zeidler

Well, a few things: First, someone DID burn it down, and he's going to jail for it. Whether there's any kind of connection to the Lalanis is open for debate, but the fact is that the fact that the building was damaged and partially vacant (because of the damage) at the time it burned likely...

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

Question: Are there still plans to add the luminous panels to the walkway from Pickering GO station over the 401? And an actual construction update: The Ajax parking garage is now complete as far as the main structure itself. The cranes were removed about a month and a half ago. It looks...

Toronto non-mall retail (Odds & Ends)

Same here. It's been our go-to for office pizza; in fact, we ordered just two days before they closed up. I have a craving for one of their slices about once every other month, and it's nice to know they may be back.

Miscellany Toronto Photographs: Then and Now

To my knowledge, yes--but just the tower portion; the rest of the building is in use. The issue has to do with the narrowness of the space and the ability to install wide enough stairs and/or a modern elevator to bring it up to code for fire safety.

Miscellany Toronto Photographs: Then and Now

I would love to do Then and Nows for Brush Park in Detroit. This site shows a few. http://detroit.curbed.com/archives/2011/10/brush-parks-romantic-victorian-ruins.php#brush-park-detroit-1

    Restaurant Comings & Goings

Pretty much. The gift shop sells some pre-packaged sandwiches, ice cream, and pop. Not much more.

They're still doing something, given the scaffolding at street level and the ropes I see going up the building. Not quite sure exactly what. Given the window crash from a couple of weeks ago, I am assuming glass is part of it. My favourite missing teal glass panel is still missing.

    Restaurant Comings & Goings

We are apparently losing the Mamma's Pizza at Adelaide and Yonge to the Bay Adelaide tower development. Last day is Friday, November 23. I'll miss them--their pizza is something a little different than the usua, and I'll miss being able to swing in for a slice.

Oddly enough, the scaffolding was still up (at least a few levels up) when the building opened officially (last March?). It finally came completely down a few months later. And now it's back.

Toronto St Regis Toronto Hotel and Residences | 281.93m | 58s | JFC Capital | Zeidler

The thing that's odd is that the scaffolding was down for several months. Went back up maybe a month or two ago. I'm not sure if it's just there because of the glass replacement work, or why. And on my recurring obsession: yes, the teal-coloured small glass panel up about 10-12 storeys is...

Toronto St Regis Toronto Hotel and Residences | 281.93m | 58s | JFC Capital | Zeidler

I talked to a woman at street level who had watched the whole thing develop from the Bay Adelaide Centre. Apparently the workmen were struggling to position the new pane of glass and and lost control of it. It fell, striking additional panes on the way down. I could tell the main pane was new...

Toronto St Regis Toronto Hotel and Residences | 281.93m | 58s | JFC Capital | Zeidler

Several large panels of glass have just fallen from the Trump onto Adelaide. There was an earth-shattering kaboom. I don't believe any cars were hit, but they're danged lucky.

    Evocative Images of Lost Toronto

I've seen a fair number of exterior shots of Chorley Park, but only a couple of the interior (one of which I don't think was posted). Thanks for sharing. When I first read about Chorley Park, I made an excursion to see the site, which, as many may know, is a park now. Nothing remains but the...

Miscellany Toronto Photographs: Then and Now

I've passed this by hundreds of times and never noticed a thing. Interesting that they chose to adapt an old building in this manner.

    Hudson's Bay Company

I hadn't really noticed how dated that old logo had become--the big B is still cool, but the typeface with it, not so much. The new typeface is just kinda blah. I guess blah has less chance of looking dated, though.

Yep, still had 'em. Folks at work were suitably impressed--I think some of 'em went down and got one after I secured mine. Come in a nice little gift bag, too.

Thanks. Know exactly where that is. Guess I know what I'm doing on break tomorrow.
