    Restaurant Tipping Etiquette

What % amounts do they suggest here in Toronto? Do they also start at 18%?

    Restaurant Tipping Etiquette

On the topic of the tip percentage, I was thinking about how some restaurants in the U.S. would print out a little chart at the bottom of your receipt indicating 3 suggested tip amounts based on your specific total. It'd start at 18% with the actual $ amount calculated for you, then go to 20%...

Jasonzed's myDrone Activity of Toronto and Area

Amazing photos, as always. Just curious if you're still using a GoPro Hero3+ Black from this thread's inception?

I do believe there will be an increase in ridership. Unfortunately, I don't forsee it to be a significant one.

Do you think Toronto's high linguistic diversity will continue for a long time?

In related news, British Prime Minister David Cameron pledges to fund English language classes for female migrants, who could be deported if they don't improve their ability to speak the language...

What's your favourite non-Cantonese Chinese restaurant in downtown?

Surprisingly, I do see a lot of Asian people eating at Asian Legend. I think the clear distinction between authentic Chinese food versus modern, hipper trendy Chinese eateries is actually evolving. Gone are the days where you have to choose between pure authentic Chinese cuisine on Spadina which...

    Chinatown

I don't think that's a bad analogy. Most Canadian-born Chinese people living in Toronto seem to refer to Spadina Chinatown as "old school", kind of like the type of place their parents would shop at when they first immigrated to Canada, with "new school" being, as prosperegal noted, Agincourt...

    Toronto Aura at College Park | 271.87m | 78s | Canderel | Graziani + Corazza

That Star article had a level of positivity about Shops at Aura that I've never seen outside of Aura's marketing materials. I think the author delicately insinuated that the retail space can evolve into a bustling flea market. The challenges of this retail space are clear and undisputed. I hope...

    Baby, we got a bubble!?

A good read in the Financial Post. Wild Tales of Buys, Booms and Busts A Canadian oral history of housing-market anxieties familiar and peculiar http://business.financialpost.com/features/boom-and-bust

    Baby, we got a bubble!?

Comments from Royal LePage as published by the CBC today: "...Royal LePage says it expects the national real estate market to slow this year due to eroding affordability in Toronto and Vancouver and the fallout from declining oil prices in Western Canada." "...we expect that the pace of price...

Do you think Toronto's high linguistic diversity will continue for a long time?

While it is politically correct to allow everyone to speak their mother tongue both at home and in public with no mandatory requirement to learn the national language, I don't think it is in one's best interest not to learn the language. The ability to speak proficiently in the language of...

    Urbanity in the suburbs

I think you're spot on with both scenarios. I do know people who "choose" to live in certain areas but it is most definitely driven by economic reasons. I also know people who actually do choose and are financially capable of living in certain areas (like midtown or north central Toronto) due to...

    Cigarette butts and balconies/terraces

Smokers who throw their butts onto other people's private property aren't the worst people on earth. They share that honour with people who walk their dog so they can poop on someone else's front lawn and walk away without picking up after them. :p

    Toronto Aura at College Park | 271.87m | 78s | Canderel | Graziani + Corazza

This would likely be the best case scenario. And this, unfortunately, is probably the reality of this retail space. Given the sheer lack of pedestrian traffic in this area, I'm not sure what it would take to revive this retail failure.

    Toronto Aura at College Park | 271.87m | 78s | Canderel | Graziani + Corazza

With all of this considered, the big question now is what becomes of Shops at Aura in the future? Will it simply be a forever forgotten mall, empty and buried beneath this landmark condo building?

    Cigarette butts and balconies/terraces

I simply can't stand receiving those letters and notices reminding residents to not throw cigarette butts off their balconies and all the reasons why. It's the fact that this even needs to be done at all is what irks me. *shakes head*

    Baby, we got a bubble!?

Just some rough math to think about... A 25% correction today would take a home owner who purchased an average home in Toronto in 2012 (4 years ago) to market value break even. This is based on a Toronto average price appreciation of 7% per year.
