    Toronto Ontario Line 3 | ?m | ?s

The "people" line can be any line except CN/CP ;)

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

Not sure why regulations in North America are so different than in Europe, but in Europe subway cars can and do intermingle with (freight) rail (not in revenue service, to be sure, but when they need to be transported to/from the city they're being used in), but trams most definitely don't (some...

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

Then a 2–4-car GO train is also "light rail" (since we're gonna blur the lines between LRT / light metro / subway, why stop there & not go a step further? why not blur the lines between local & regional transit? if there are no absolutes/purists in different forms of urban rail transport, why...

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

They did standardize it at least partially, having only 2 models is less than 3 or more, especially with only 1 model per line. Well, if it weren't for them being lemons there shouldn't have been a need to even offer the option order, had they been reliable they shouldn't've had second thoughts...

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

They had no qualms about prematurely retiring the H6s in order to standardize the fleet (I'm almost certain they would've done the same thing even if they weren't lemons), and PATH replaced all PA1-4s even earlier, by 2011, in order to have only 1 model (PA5), despite the youngest PA4s being...

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

Not me reading "Rick really" as "Rick Leary", had to read twice 😆 Totally agree, and it's doubly annoying online when you open up a webpage and right away a pop-up chat shows up with "how can i help you". Like, I just wanna browse the site on my own, but having this chat pop-up is a sure way to...

    Toronto Ontario Line 3 | ?m | ?s

Yeah, should just leave it as SRT blue, which is easily distinguishable from yellow, and also distinguishable enough from green (and purple, if & when the blue reaches it).

    Toronto Ontario Line 3 | ?m | ?s

If it weren't for the line's name being printed, it'd be almost as if they did decide to renumber Sheppard to 3 (with the SRT gone), and the OL to 4, thereby grouping all 3 legacy subway lines together and the OL coming right after them. As was recently mentioned in another thread, purple...

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

Still, even without a second entrance at the opposite end, they could've designed the existing entrance such that the stairs to get from one platform to the other were inside the fare-paid area (or have 2 sets of stairs, one in the paid area, the other in the unpaid area, like the neighboring...

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

The worst aspect of Dundas station is that there's no way to get from one platform to the other without exiting & re-entering the fare-paid area, if I recall correctly (haven't been to that station in a while, but when I have, it always seemed to be the case). The same design flaw exists in many...

Sheppard Line 4 Subway Extension (Proposed)

Perhaps renumbering line 4 to line 401 would be in order then😌

Sheppard Line 4 Subway Extension (Proposed)

This might sound like a stupid idea, but purely hypothetically they could build both branches, one diverting to STC and the other staying on Sheppard, to settle the debate. Same thing with the YNSE: one branch staying on Yonge, another diverting to the RH corridor. Unfortunately, this is most...

Sheppard Line 4 Subway Extension (Proposed)

Yeah, it actually makes sense to use gray for those rather than an LRT line that would be included on the subway map. It almost feels like a cursed coincidence that the bleak era came soon after the design philosophy took over. More like the opposite, it wasn't bad enough that the design...

Sheppard Line 4 Subway Extension (Proposed)

It'll be fine when we get the blue back. Always looked nice when lines 1, 2, 3, 4 went in order (yellow, green, blue, purple). Also a nice touch that the 4 in Toronto is the same color as the 7 in NYC. So is red, which seems to be reserved for buses/trams here.

Sheppard Line 4 Subway Extension (Proposed)

Ah, so the real reason line 4 got TRs was to be compatible with line 1 ATC when moving trains to/from Davisville? For some reason I thought line 4 practically ended up getting ATC even before line 1 was completed, and served as a prototype for the latter, lol I mean they did do the opposite...

Sheppard Line 4 Subway Extension (Proposed)

I thought it already switched to ATC, hence why they put TRs on it since 2016? If/when line 4 is extended, they would certainly need new rolling stock for fleet expansion, not to mention the current stock potentially reaching the end of life by the time the extensions are ready to open...

    Richmond Hill Yonge Line 1 North Subway Extension | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

I was referring to the new fleet, which the city paid its share, but the province & feds failed to do so repeatedly, presumably because they "see right through the ridiculous pleas to upper levels of government for cash".

    Richmond Hill Yonge Line 1 North Subway Extension | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

So that's why they never stepped up to fund the line 2 project eh?

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

Out of curiosity, how much (if at all) has the reliability of the T1s dropped compared to when they were new?

That would've been a regular midlife rebuild to ensure the oldest last 35 years, not a life extension to have them make it to 45. With the exception of 3 car types (H1, H2, H6), all other TTC cars (including the SRT) have always retired in the 35–40 range.
