Susan Boyle, the wee Scottish lady who sings

I write music, I record music - pop songs, orchestral, documentary scoring - and I still enjoy the reality "talent" shows. I didn't know the patrons of Rotate this and Soundscapes were the only ones who gave a damn about music. Save us, oh great audiophiles, from the evils of reality television...

Globe: Time for a new stadium?

As far as I know, 'cookie cutter' refers to the symmetrical, circular design and the fact it's multi-purpose - which doesn't allow for the odd corners and quirky walls of the Camden types. Thankfully, it was designed with much more thought than the old clunkers from the 60's and 70's, but it...

Susan Boyle, the wee Scottish lady who sings

I don't know, if you're going to pick an example, I don't think Kelly Clarkson would be it. She's been torn apart because of her "weight problem" and lack of rack. I don't mind her at all. She's sort of the anti-bimbo singing star who went against her label and Clive Davis to release the record...

New to UT? Introduce yourself here!

Yes, Jade, I am new here as well and I welcome you even though you aren't that new. The welcome wagon 'round these parts is rather lacking.

Susan Boyle, the wee Scottish lady who sings

I've read a plethora of articles and blog entries about this whole deal and they yammer on about why this touches us so but I can sum it up thus: we expect absolutely nothing from ugly people.

Miscellany Toronto Photographs: Then and Now

Regarding the 409 Queen set: I thought the bricking up of windows to conserve energy was a mid-century thing. I guess I was wrong (unless this was the original intention of the designer(s), i.e. stylistic? Faux windows?)

Could we organize the largest, all female mud wrestling tournament before the sod goes down?

Globe: Time for a new stadium?

I'm kinda torn. When the roof's open, it's a nice place to watch a game, but when the roof is closed - not so much. I really, really don't like the fact it's symmetrical. The Skydome was the cat's ass for a few years after it opened, but quickly became dated as all the throwback parks started...

    bad thornton

It's funny because the ONLY reason he'd be getting any press at all for his music is because of his other career. I think he has this attitude that since it's his first love (sorry Billy!) and he pals around with Daniel Lanois, he's any good at what he does but one quick surf through his videos...

Head of Slips (Waterfront Toronto, West 8/DTAH)

I agree. I think this one's superb. I was just visualizing some 3 year old whose been cooped up all winter taking one major tumble.

Do any of you share my thought that these extreme dips might be a tad dangerous for certain segments of the population?

No, but I can see Kim Jong-il's insanity in every ridiculous window.

Do the Gardiner pillars actually go into that old building? Interesting that the low level part would have been spared.

Miscellany Toronto Photographs: Then and Now

Not only that, but apparently they paved right over that man as well. Tragic story.
