Lesser recognized buildings in Toronto that you enjoy

This is a great thread. Thanks, @AlbertC, for starting it.

Toronto Restaurants of the 80s and 90s

Johnny is correct. There was a time if one travelled west of Ottawa (in southern Ontario), poutine became harder to find, and if you did find it the curds were invariably replaced by shredded cheese. It was a dark time.

The Concourse Building was subject to approvals almost 20 years old. That's not the case here.

I got that. I was just wondering where you read that the City wasn't turning on fountains sooner due to that.

Well, not even that. Particularly will with Bill 139.

    Toronto's best residential streets

When Toronto was amalgamated, the transition team left the issue of duplicate street names to the new Council. It was a political hot potato - no community wanted to lose their Church Street or George Street. No Councillor was going to earn points in the ward by being reasonable or...

Toronto Restaurants of the 80s and 90s

Lone Star started in Ottawa. I'm guessing mid 80s. Two former Ottawa Rough Riders, originally from Texas, who decided to stay in Canada, and saw a business opportunity for real Texas BBQ. At the start, people used to drive from all over Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec because the food was...

    I miss the 1990's

Except they didn't have big pockets and were already suffering. Yes, the corporate culture may have been better, but that is of little use in insolvency proceedings. Had CHUM not bought Craig Media, they might have held off a bit longer. But Craig Media was the canary in the coal mine for CHUM.

    I miss the 1990's

Other than the fact that the models we loved are undoubtedly not feasible today. Broadcasters around the world are having huge difficulties in adapting. Not sure what CHUM would be doing today. In any event, both stations would be unrecognizable. It's worth remembering that CHUM was already...

    I miss the 1990's

To be fair, the business climate for both MuchMusic and City-tv has changed considerably. While I don't absolve the owners, Bell and Rogers respectively, of blame for dumbing down both stations, neither station could have continued as they were. When I was 17, I used to watch Good Rockin'...

Toronto Restaurants of the 80s and 90s

I understand that when Greenjeans opened in the Eaton Centre in 1980 (I believe it operated somewhere else downtown for a couple of years before that), it was a big thing and a favourite of many. I assume the (widely held) nostalgia is based on those years, because by the time I moved to TO in...

    Evocative Images of Lost Toronto

Toronto's earliest heritage advocates. Today's heritage advocates might be taken more seriously if they too had carts pulled by oxen.

PATH Network Expansion (various, various, various)

If only we could eliminate pedestrians stopping drivers from mounting sidewalks, and ploughing through crosswalks on red.

    I miss the 1990's

Yes! MuchMusic at its peak, with Erica Ehm, Speaker's Corner, Electric Circus, broadcasting from the sidewalk at Queen and John, relatively eclectic play lists (compared to anything these days), etc. And it was so, so much better than MTV in the States, which just seemed to play Undressed and...

No, I was being more specific. Legally these buildings cannot be dismantled by "whomever pleases".
