    St Lawrence Market

I spoke to vendor on the main level of the market a few weeks ago. He said Sundays were busy but weekdays from 5 to 7 were quiet and not worth his while business-wise. I don't think the city or the market have done much in the way of advertising the new hours.

I'm into it. It knows the rules and then breaks them but in a cool way, not in clueless, tasteless Kirkor / G+C way. It's poking fun, even thumbing its nose at Toronto's pearl-clutching schtick. The blonde cladding is deferential but the form is irreverent and I'm all for the tension. (We want...

^^^ I follow a couple of random Swedish architecture feeds on Instagram. The diversity of materials, treatments, shapes, forms, colours in their contemporary architecture is mind-blowing. I'm sure the same can be said of any number of countries across the pond. I'm glad we're having a Danish...

We really need to expand our materials pallet in this city. Everything kind of looks the same.

Are those awful, cobra-head lights temporary until more heritage-inspired lights get installed? Please say yes.

Just wondering why the column attachments and lower I-beam are being painted white while the rest of the framing on the building is grey...

    St Lawrence Market

I went to St. Lawrence Market yesterday (Tuesday) to get a bag of coffee from Everyday Gourmet. I got there at 6:20. Everything was either closed or closing. I asked a neighbouring merchant who was closing up shop what was going on. I told him it was my understanding that the market was supposed...

I'm digging the PoPoMo / NeoPoMo era we seem to be entering. I'm all for less orthodoxy and more expressionism. I think this project looks great.

Me too and I'm worried about the precedent this will set for the parking lot to the east on Church if this gets approved.

I think the debacle of St. James Town and the destruction of 1/2 of Cabbagetown 60+ years has left an indelible mark on this city. Now there are those advocating in their twitter feeds and elsewhere for the very same thing in 2022, ie, the demolition of established, inner-city neighbourhoods in...

I understand. It seems like a cumbersome, ideological constraint to place on societies though. Just my opinion, of course.

I still don't get the concept of "carbon embodied in the existing structure" and what that means practically in terms of pulling down buildings, which seems like a basic thing a society needs to do from time to time.

I walk through here about 4 times a week. It's really not that tiny. My point is the community consultation process was rather hyped, with all kinds "woke" posturing. My expectations were heightened and I was expecting a lot more; a re-think, not a surface-level refreshing.

Slap it down to 50 floors and I'm fully onboard. I love what's going on at street-level. That's what's selling it for me. (I live close by so I'm a "stakeholder.")
