    Cycling infrastructure (Separated bike lanes)

It joins the long list of things Toronto has rules prohibiting that are totally ignored and unenforced.

    Hosting a summer Olympic games

But I think the days of high advertising revenues to bid up those rights have passed. I haven't been following the payments the IOC has been getting from broadcast rights, but I would expect them to have declined. It's possible other sponsorship revenue is up to compensate.

    Premier Doug Ford's Ontario

This is the only sensible solution. The messaging was so confused. "No more stickers! No more reminders! But keep your registration up to date!"

    The Coming Disruption of Transport

It's a bit of a desperation move. Rivian is still burning cash at over $1B per quarter, and this infusion will lead to significant dilution of existing shareholders.

    46th Canadian General Election

I'd rather electoral reform over a merger. I think there is a room for a centre-left party and a left wing party.

Doug Ford actually did lower provincial gas taxes temporarily. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/gas-tax-cut-extension-1.7154397#:~:text=The%20cut%2C%20which%20first%20went,the%20end%20of%20the%20year.

If anything, people overestimate how much carbon tax adds to the price of gas. It was about $0.14/L.

    Mississauga Hurontario-Main Line 10 LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

I almost expect them to open part of the line without it being complete down to Port Credit!

    Mississauga Hurontario-Main Line 10 LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

Much of Hurontario is in very poor conidition. They definitely will be repaving sections as the disruptions to the ROW are completed. They have already done a good portion where the utilities have been relocated and the trackbed poured. They may do further work, not sure what the plan is for...

    PM Justin Trudeau's Canada

I think if we had a more proportional electoral system, our politics wouldn't be quite so ditch to ditch and we would have more stable policy regime (for good and ill, I guess).

    Electric Bikes

It bothers me that police perceive bike theft as a trivial crime unworthy of their time. It dissuades bike usage which has a big impact on how people exist in the city.

    Electric Bikes

Not sure that is true. Lithium iron phosphate batteries are actually quite resistant to thermal runaway, contain no cobalt and are actually cheaper. That said, I think ebikes generally use NCM chemistry that is at greater risk of thermal runaway and catching fire. The downside of LFP batteries...

    PM Justin Trudeau's Canada

It was my biggest disappointment with Trudeau as well. I was pretty pleased with marijuana legalization (prohibition was a farce) and carbon tax.

Android devices can limit their max state of charge. Most laptops do as well. These days, you have lithium ion batteries in smoke detectors.

    Hosting a summer Olympic games

IOC is mostly funded by broadcast rights and sponsorships. I think this is likely dwindling in the era of streaming and more diffuse viewing habits.

    PM Justin Trudeau's Canada

I'm skeptical we don't have enough fast food workers and retail clerks. If we're finding we need to import people to work these jobs, it's likely an argument for higher min wage/allowing pay to rise. Of course, that can be inflationary. So can allowing population growth of 3% without any...

    Electric Bikes

Dodgy lithium ion battery devices are a risk not worth taking.

Road Safety & Vision Zero Plan

There is still a distressing tendency to eliminate all those wonderful separations where they are most needed: intersections. A lot of bike lanes and even cycle tracks end in turn lanes.

0% unemployment has never and will never happen. It's basically mathematically impossible.

Worth noting that 'medium growth' scenario of 63m from 40m over 50 years is 0.91% compounded.
