    Toronto Ontario Line: Osgoode Station | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | HDR

Passengers will soon realize not to use the Simcoe entrance to try to access the Line 1 concourse. They'll either use the old existing stairs, or if they need an elevator, they'll cross the street to get to the NE corner OL entrance.

It's the whole "box" of floors 4-6 storeys that is hung. Within that "box", the corner column provides rigidity and supports the upper most floors of the "box" from below. Using a pic from Urban Affair Jan 26, 2023, you can see the "Box" that is suspended from the hangers. The corner column...

The choice isn't whether or not to place a column in the corner - It would have originated much farther back in the design process. Once they chose the angle of the hangers and placement of the supercolumns, then physics took over. The top slab of the "block" being hung is cantilevered out...

More cool diagrams from the factum. It also shows each alternative with a note why it would not work. ...and one of the diagrams just showed double fire doors (not turnstiles) in the passage between the ticketing halls of Line 1 Osgoode and OL Osgoode.

    Toronto Ontario Line: Osgoode Station | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | HDR

Nice Metrolinx diagram from that factum. Geez, they couldn't use 3 long escalators instead of 6 short ones? ... and 43 metres (40 to lower platform, I guess) is DEEP! Granville Station in Vancouver is 25 metres deep.

I suppose you'd still be able to access Osgoode Station from the existing in-street stair. You also see this at Waterfront Station for transfers between Canada Line and SkyTrain. The reason is probably so that the passengers are counted when they go through turnstiles, and the passenger...

Look at the Metrolinx website here: https://www.metrolinx.com/en/projects-and-programs/ontario-line Note that it's an "interactive" website, so you may have to hover you mouse over various icons on a map and click to open up information on the stations (yes, that's annoying).

How about demolishing and rebuilding Line 1"s Osgoode Station in the process? 🙄 Together with an in sidewalk entrance like Waterfront's second entrance in Vancouver? Elevator in background; stair down and escalator up. Ticketing functions on level below. There's still a bit of sidewalk on...

If they called the "keyhole" the "access shaft" it would be a lot clearer to people what they are proposing. You can also see that the ticketing hall of Osgoode Station limits how far to the west you can shift the access shaft without closing Osgoode during construction (i.e. can't dig the...

Yes, probably initially, then they realized they got some traction.

    Costco

Design-wise, it is worth noting that the Vancouver Costco is built into an escarpment, where there is access from streets at the top and access from the streets below. This is important because the condo towers above are accessed from the street above, with a couple levels of parking below...

Maybe they'll have colourful advertising wraps on them? and the drab base colour won't conflict with the advertising?

Agreed - raw concrete. As soon as you paint concrete it signals that the building is old or failing and you'll have to constantly maintain the paint as it will crack, peel and flake off. The raw concrete does, however, look patched in places too. Just saw this link to a proposed reclad before...

This is in Metrotown (Burnaby), not downtown Vancouver, so the spaces are bigger. It's yet to be seen how those moveable glass enclosures hold up over time or whether they become a liability. Not sure if that would be a strata (condo) responsibility or an owner repsonsibility. The deep balconies...
