Danforth Line 2 Scarborough Subway Extension

It's amazing - there is no way replacing a short tunnel needed to take a year and cost anywhere near the same order of magnitude as the replacement. Kennedy could be solved too, probably for ~30-50m (cost of a new SkyTrain station in Vancouver)

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

I think the direct service to the downtown (which we should hope booms in population along with LRT) should probably be the goal

    Toronto Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

Looks rapid Looks like this will be done soon :/ Would be surprised, other projects that have already opened feature redundant elevators

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

Honestly, if it weren’t CP I think it would happen. The tunnel will be expensive but surely even with our ridiculous prices a billion or two? Seems like even that would be a justifiable price for trains into the heart of the city,

Danforth Line 2 Scarborough Subway Extension

Ah yes, I suppose Vancouver and KL’s new trains are but a figment of my imagination

    Toronto Ontario Line 3 | ?m | ?s

The TTC has “needed” more capacity on Line 1 for decades and hasn’t done most of this stuff - I don’t have faith they will. The biggest legacy issue Line 1 has, as mentioned is the terminals, we could fix them but again, its unlikely we will . . . I’m fine with that, contracts are written so...

Sheppard Line 4 Subway Extension (Proposed)

The difference is there is a big difference in demand from Yonge to Spadina and so running the same headway doesn’t make sense, theres even less demand on most of the TYSSE than on most of Spadina. This would utilize that surplus capacity (which will be there for decades at this rate) to...

    Toronto Ontario Line 3 | ?m | ?s

This is good news at the end, it means that an international operator with more experiencing running metro systems will be making the train decision, not the TTC. Likely will mean a more modern and reputable train design.

    Toronto Ontario Line 3 | ?m | ?s

Another general note from someone working in the subway engineering world, capacity doesn't only depend on your train size or platform length, if it did the TTC would have no excuse for the low capacities they state for L1 (mid 30's) while someone here pointed out that the platforms and trains...

    Toronto Ontario Line 3 | ?m | ?s

If you have someone in the cab a big benefit of automation has not been achieved - Vancouver can put out more service because automation massively reduces service costs. Vancouver has roughly 70 meter trains with an inefficient seating layout (almost no seats face inwards) with observed...

Sheppard Line 4 Subway Extension (Proposed)

This train goes to Scarborough, vs. this train goes to Downtown is too complicated for the average TTC rider? How do we manage the streetcar network moving anyone? But the whole point of this is using excess track capacity to make some people's lives easier to reduce transfers? Not to introduce...

    VIA Rail

There are many more examples than just this tunnel of VIA sitting around while infra it could have used is impacted. Perhaps the issue is VIA's management isn't fighting these battles?

Danforth Line 2 Scarborough Subway Extension

The sort of money being spend on a subway that covers mostly the same corridor

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

Hate the parking but these new 905 stations are very nice looking, even sans level boarding they are a BIG upgrade.

Seneca is big, we shouldn't dismiss the impact of an educational institution on ridership

    Montréal Transit Developments

It is their decision to make, and it will likely lead to better transit outcomes (more riders).

    Toronto Eglinton Line 5 Crosstown West Extension | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

I think these forecasts are wrong. I think rapid transit (and yes trams) along Eglinton will substantially boost demand, and actually think the opening day operations will be very tight given the few doors present on the trains relative to a subway. Science Centre won't be a relief valve for a...

    TTC: Streetcar Network

Yeah but Humber isn't really a tunnel

    Metrolinx: Other Items (catch all)

Strange that he never mentions the major issues with the Relief Line plan, which would have created a T interchange rather than a much more favorable Cross one.

But it's also a public sector pension fund, not exactly private and of course they care about sustainability! The trams are slow and expensive to operate - a recipe for poor ridership because expensive operations means less service.
