If you think the Leslieville folks freaked out with the subway, try to 6 track the GO part of the corridor - they will go *ballistic*

You don't need a rectifier if you're on DC power which the OL still will be. The impact on actually tunnel diameter isn't a big issue, depth is what costs money! Using the TTC power distribution network seems like a bad way to create a resilient network. Independent feeds are good. I don't...

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

The issue here is one of reasonable cost benefit, a well designed level crossing can be very safe - we just don't design reasonable crossings in NA! There are a lot of other measures that would provide more benefits, safety and otherwise than removing every minor level crossing on the southern...

Because some projects have being going a really long time, and changes are expensive!

This may be a very dumb comment, but the way the main entrance to Union is being surrounded by more and more tall towers reminds me of Grand Central and I kind of love it

I'll leave it at this. The planning behind TC was thin, and in the space of transit the word "prove" should not be used. This isn't maths, things cannot be proved - we need to rely on heuristics and the like. Estimates are only as good as the estimator and there is plenty of reason to be...

Meh, the politicians who ultimately pull the trigger on these projects are democratically elected, at some point we have to accept that. If there was some atrocity going on the politicians would be booted, not bending to every local whim is maybe a feature not a bug. Third rail is limited in...

The nice thing about OL being a different tech is it sets that precedent. A route with TTC stock almost certainly would not be automated (making platform screen doors less likely too) and the weaker performance of the TTC Subway spec would likely not allow an alignment that is doing this much...

Phoenix doing it should immediately make you question whether it's a good idea. Most of the LRT systems in the US move around as many people as . . . the King Streetcar (many move less!) Clearly in a city the size of Toronto there is incredibly high east west travel demand? Look at how many...

Feels very weak, impeding the entire Science Centre Complex for this

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

I think the grade separations are on ice with the on corridor contract so close to being done (as with Scarborough junction), frankly many of them aren't really needed (Finch is happening as part of the station), one of the benefits of regional rail over the REM or whatever is being able to have...

Part of the problem Toronto has a problem writing good schedules. If the schedule is super slow you'll never be late!

Those type of conversion promises are made a lot, of course anything is technically possible - but its often totally impractical. The UP trains are unreliable and since we seem committed to low floor my guess is we will get rid of them ASAP, hopefully Bloor and Weston don't feel to awkward with...

I am sorry but this is a very bad idea. Level boarding for all cars and doors please.

Great Platform Height Debate: Subway-Style Level Boarding for GO Trains

The Flirts or something similar seem like a natural pick, they are tested (tho not the pure electric version) in North America, can be manufactured here and are just generally really nice. For longer trips the bilevels should suffice.
