    Toronto Union Station Revitalization | ?m | ?s | City of Toronto | NORR

I like wider platforms, but if the stairs are still so close to the edge thats going to be very annoying.
  2. superelevation

    Finch West Line 6 LRT

Not 2 branches, usually many more and on both sides. This also usually doesn't happen in a full metro environment.

    Toronto Bloor-Yonge Station Capacity Enhancement | ?m | ?s | TTC | AECOM

May well be, but it is driving the size of new facilities much larger and thus more expensive.

Sure it's twinable!, stuff like that has definetly be done, its not that large of a tunnel as well. I am sure the Swiss do it pretty regularly . . . just look at this . . .

    Toronto Bloor-Yonge Station Capacity Enhancement | ?m | ?s | TTC | AECOM

I think what may be being referred to is the stuff even farther off, and a lot of that is massive new ventilation, which feels excessive and is something driving new subway stations to be much more expensive.
  6. superelevation

    Montréal Transit Developments

I wouldn't say most extensive. It may not be super frequent, but the regular GO services + UP Express have real value, as do the streetcars even if they aren't full rapid transit. The Metro is great but Montreal needs far more. That being said the REM could very well get a number of extensions...

    Finch West Line 6 LRT

You seem to miss a bunch of the details here! The Ottawa trains are bigger than almost all German Stadtbahn trains, and 100% low floor (a decent number in Germany aren't) and need to be able to operate at high speeds so the design is less conventional. Stadtbahns also are almost never structured...

Toronto GO Transit: Davenport Diamond Grade Separation | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

This is pretty cool! Makes me feel like this type of rapid guideway construction is probably underused here.
  9. superelevation

    Montréal Transit Developments

Meh, the whole REM is supposed to be completed at the same time, just parts later than expected. Blue Line seems further along than it has been in the past.

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

Yes, and this is where we need to use some critical thinking. Do they not need to test the rails in the much more intensively used railway networks that use this in Europe? I think its worth pointing out (not making a comment about this situation in particular), that the existence of an...
  11. superelevation

    Ottawa Transit Developments

The issue to some extent is trying to get the (actually very heavy) trains running incredibly frequently under CBTC to hit the 20,000+ ppdph capacity target. The system needs to hit capacities that are a real stretch for it's vehicles and infra

    Toronto Pearson International Airport

Was at LGW recently and most gates were not working, they appeared pretty tempermental
  13. superelevation

    Finch West Line 6 LRT

Except running tram trains every 3-4 minutes under CBTC on such a tight alignment and with high top speeds is indeed quite unconventional

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

Paint does not work in the cold?
  15. superelevation

    Toronto Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

The issue here is more to do with the terrible waterproofing on the TYSSE, there are crazy icicles which form in winter!
  16. superelevation

    Finch West Line 6 LRT

The "LRT" in Calgary and Edmonton that currently operate look basically nothing like what we have built in TO
  17. superelevation

    Eglinton East LRT | Metrolinx

A subway has a lot more potential travel time benefits than LRT (at least the way we are building them), so obviously its more attractive/.

    Toronto Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

I really think some colossally bad planning decisions were made with this line, but its still going to be great to see it open. It's going to be miles better than the bus, and maybe it will light a fire under the TTC to do some stuff it should have already been doing with the streetcars.
