Definitely. If Canadian families can all adopt the culture of those people, aka, for grandparents to provide child care for their grandchildren, like they do in much of non-Germanic Europe, Asia or Latin America, we wouldn't need so much subsidy for the families to start with. Yet Protestant...

Toronto Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport | ?m | ?s | Ports Toronto | Arup

I live near the Eaton Centre, and the noise from cars and people, especially when there is an event, can be terribly distracting too. Plus the St Mikes' helicopters etc. Yet that's just part of downtown living. You live all the way at King/Spadina, and the airport bothers you even? Jesus. That...

I thought you were going to bring this democracy thing. Here you go. Apparently everything China did better was due to "dictatorship". First, Hong Kong is not under a "dictatorship". Second, I am not sure if the slow motion of rollout has anything to do with democracy. And third, plenty of...

    Taxis and ride-sharing in Toronto

Sad thing is, the taxi industry almost has nobody that stand behind them. Probably 99.5% of the consumers support Uber. What's the point of fighting a losing war against tide? Everyone knows that's not about the law, it is about greed and suppression of competition. I have zero compassion for...

Not sure about that... maybe you mean the revised deadlines. originally, the deadline for full adoption by end of 2015. It also planned to have all the subway stations to be presto ready by end of 2013 - something still not happened. When "deadlines" kept being pushed back, of course you keep...

I am not sure if it is reasonable to argue that "because I am from a different cultural background, therefore I need more house for my relatives to take care of my children (all on taxpayers' back)". Additionally, even considering that, a family absolutely doesn't NEED a five bedroom apartment...

    Planned Sprawl in the GTA

2.6M is a very outdated number. The city released the new number a long time ago - 2.79m. How it should be well above 2.8M. http://www1.toronto.ca/wps/portal/contentonly?vgnextoid=dbe867b42d853410VgnVCM10000071d60f89RCRD

since when extended family members are considered "family" in Canada, or anywhere in the context of housing needs? The relatives can apply under their own name. Just because one is from a different culture background doesn't mean he should be treated differently in Canada. One can't honestly...

that's what I was suggesting. But because it was me who said it, it is automatically considered "lazy bum" logic by some. In reality, a family of 6 (which is pretty rare) can easily be accommodated by a relatively spacious three bedroom apartment. It is idiotic to assume every child is entitled...

they are beating around the bushes. Return tickets for $44? Funny, using Presto it only costs $38 now. The sensible way to boost ridership is to reduce adult one way ticket price. No strings attached. Bring it under 15 will make a big psychological difference.

That's great. Tell them not to cheat. Maybe blackberry workers should also have a hunger strike so that Apple gets banned in Canada.

Toronto Toronto City Hall and Nathan Phillips Square | ?m | ?s | City of Toronto | Perkins&Will

Metroman said it all. The sea of concrete, the ugly ramp, the Bay Street fence. After the huge cost overrun and delay, the entire project is a colossal failure. Nobody in the world would come to the square and be impressed by its beauty and design. It was an unattractive, uninviting third class...

Yes but hopefully not right on Church. I am fine if such towers start to appear on the nearby streets.

Yeah. Massey tower is marketed for 2016 completion, now more like 2020. Yonge and rich is advertised for 2018 now not even a hole is dug.

Such a Weird question as if everyone of us only make mini trips for less than two hours. For the past five years 90% of my air travel is more than 7 hours outside North Anerica. Billy Bishop airport is completely useless to me.

Should cities start blocking urban sprawl?

Yes, of course. The entire 6M GTA residents should live within the boundary of the current city of Toronto. We will have a density of 9500/sq km, half of Mumbai, Paris or Seoul. That should be ideal. I think the way we collect property tax is encouraging sprawl. Rather than valuation based, I...

Why not Uber directly to Pearson? It will cost about $35 in total. For coming back, your plan makes more sense. You might argue about traffic, but do you really always head to the airport during rush hours? The trip is smooth most of the time based on my experiences.

    Toronto Ryerson University: Daphne Cockwell Health Sciences Complex | 105.76m | 27s | Ryerson University | Perkins&Will

Did Ryerson keep street walkable though? I don't think it did, as far as its share of Church st is concerned. Just walk between Gerrard and Dundas you would know - almost all their buildings have a blank wall against the Church st. Its presence actually make Church st more boring...
