GO Transit Fleet Equipment and other

If I had to wager a guess, GO probably wanted another 10 car consist, but rather than moving 251, placing 3 coaches, and re-placing 251 at the other end, they just grabbed 3 coaches and a cab car and placed it in front of the consist, with them not bothering to remove 251.

The consist was placed on a Georgetown bound train, here’s what I noted of 251.

The consists appeared to be ready to run though, they had Series X cabs in front and were both paired with a locomotive.

At Willowbrook, I noticed two seemingly activated cab cars (judging by the mirrors), being used as midtrain coahes.

I still wonder about the cab cars that Alstom is refurbishing at Thunder Bay (the Series VII cab cars numbered 242 - 250), there hasn't been any clear sign of what's been happening to them, and whether they would regain their cab control function or be permanently decommissioned to standard coaches.

I see, then I'm guessing it's just a matter of when GO sees it fit to enter them into service. Perhaps in 2024-2025 when those 13 diesel locomotives may or may not arrive for service improvements that might or might not happen.

From what I’ve been told, all the wiring in the cab needed to have the cab car control the locomotive were severed when they were deactivated in 2016, however MX seemingly did not ask ONR to reconnect them once refurbished, which is why they haven’t led any trains.

Guessing the testing right now is with having it be the car behind the loco. 206 is the only one set to do that right now as it's facing east, I expect once it's given the go ahead to lead the others ones delivered will all be quickly rolled into service.

Well it'd be the Ontario Northland plant in North Bay but I see your point. I also don't think they'd need much work to install the electronics back into the cab. Just a matter of when they see a need for them to be using them right now.

The only unrefurbished old cab cars that still are used is 251-257 (most of which aren't even being used now), the rest are all CEM Cab Cars. There is also the supposed fact that they can't lead right now because apparently the electronics in the cab weren't re-installed after their deactivation.

By the way, yesterday someone I know reported seeing some sort of equipment move travelling westbound along the Lakeshore East. From what I could tell, the consist was 1 Series X Cab Car, 1 MP40 (604), 2 Series VIII Cab Cars (251 and 252), and an MP40 at the back. Wonder what's going on with that.

Well that's a bit more subjective than 6 axle being not suited for GO. For me I personally do agree the locos do look a bit off, but at the end of the day functionality matters way more than the looks, and if Wabtec were to bid in MX's tender, this may be a glimpse as to what we might expect.

I mean, since the shell is based off an HSP46, a 4 axle locomotive, I feel a 4 axle version could be made without much difficulty.

Don't know about the F125s currently, but last year they seemingly still had teething issues.

That's the HSP46, which was an MPI product, though it seems the P47AC utilizes a body almost identical to the one of the HSP46. It seems that the P47AC is the next evolution of the GE Genesis, just in an HSP46 shell.
