Oh yeah, I saw prototype MP54 647 outside at Willowbrook a few days ago, it’s supposedly still there.
Wonder what’s GO’s plan with it since it’s reportedly a very crappy runner and hasn’t been used in almost a year.
Just passed by Willowbrook, appears as though the consist with 208 does not have a loco attached to it. And look at the consist it appears to be some sort of storage line.
Caltrain in California has their BiLevel Cab Cars act as bike cars, perhaps converting all of the cab cars (both 200 and 300 series) to allow for bike storage would allow for every train to atleast have 1 bike car.
Could they do it even if 208 is behind the 300 cab?
The rebuilt 200 series cabs have full width cabs and I don't know whether they could be placed mid train without people being allowed to enter the control compartment.
Apparently that unit will be repainted into non GO colours due to them wanting to represent railroads that ran in Florida.
Also as a nerdy side note it technically isn’t a locomotive, it’s one of the F unit cab cars that supplied hotel power to the trains for locomotives that did not have an...
Speaking of retirements, I do wonder what the eventual plan for the F59s will be, I doubt GO would keep them for much longer now that they won’t be required for the London and new locomotives are being procuered.
Thing is, GO has recently refurbished their eldest BiLevels, presumely for more use into the future.
Them reactivating the old cab cars also suggests GO seems to want to continue use of the BiLevels even with electrification.
What I do expect however is the retirement of around half of the current diesel stock. I’m guessing the F59PHs, and the early orders of MP40PHs get withdrawn. While the later MP40s, MP54s, and the diesels go will acquire in 2024-2025 will remain.
