    Toronto 25 St Mary | 204m | 59s | Tenblock | gh3

You're quite right. It was the tallest building in the Yonge/Bloor area and possibly outside the CBD, though I'm unsure whether it is taller than Vaseline Towers or which of the two is oldest. I've always had a fondness for it though I'm not too fond about the recent exterior renovation.

    Next Premier of Ontario?

Oh yes, lets bring back the Harris philosophy based on excessive personal greed and let's screw everybody else who isn't part of the privileged Conservative elite. Just how selfish, small minded, self centred, mean spirited and self serving can a party be?

Your 2 cents are worth as much as anyone else's 2 cents.

Well yes, if they actually erect a real hoarding !!

All they have bought is time which was to be expected. Bazis is still in one hell of a pickle.

They certainly don't appear to be in a very good place, though given the troubled history of this proposal, I'm not sure that they ever were. There seemed to be an awful lot of wishful thinking (myself included) which seemed to cloud our judgement somewhat.

Why unholy? What have you got against them? Is there something dodgy we should know about? Tricon has been a respected financial player for many years and is connected with many projects including both Casa and Burano. Something wrong with them? Do you have a problem with Minto's Quantum? I'm...

Miscellany Toronto Photographs: Then and Now

I believe that was the fabled Royce dealership that Rompin' Ronnie Hawkins sauntered into, purchased a Rolls and paid the dumbfounded salesperson with cash.

Hopefully you're right. When was the last time you saw it lit up? I was down there a week ago and noticed it was not lit and when I tried to recall the last time I saw it aglow, I sort of drew a blank, though I don't often go down that way of an evening.

Miscellany Toronto Photographs: Then and Now

Is it possible that it is the NE corner of Adelaide and York with the former Canada Permanent Building in the background?

I agree that Toronto's attitude towards lighting is quite shameful. What ever happened to the lighting for the old CIBC Tower, the old Bank of Nova Scotia and even Simpson's Tower - somebody pulled the plug.

I believe that Scotts later became the Fred Astaire Dance Studio featuring a large picture window on the second floor allowing pedestrians on the street to see the dancers inside, not unlike the National Ballet School's studios on Jarvis.

Penrose - I stand corrected. Thanks. Do you by any chance remember the name of the shop where Toby used to hang out? It's driving me nuts! I phoned a friend in Victoria to see if he could remember, but like myself, he could only recall Early Savage, and of course they were on Avenue Road.

Miscellany Toronto Photographs: Then and Now

I used to know Toby. His owner(s?) had an antique/second hand/design store (can't recall the name alas) on the west side of Yonge Street just north of the Rosedale subway station. Toby would laze on the sidewalk out front just waiting for anyone passing by to make a fuss over him. Living in a...
