One of many articles about facadism. https://hiddencityphila.org/2018/08/saving-a-facade-is-not-historic-preservation/ The proposed standards and conclusion in this study in San Francisco lays out an informed process for historical preservation and facadism. https://tinyurl.com/y5n26q3g I know...

There are a multitude of buildings in the city that deserve preservation in its entirety, as i'm sure we all agree. Facedectomy in a lot of cases looks nothing more than a feeble attempt to save the past, at the expense of looking ridiculous. Maybe this old warehouse had nothing inside worth...

Another pretend preservation project in this city.

    Toronto KING Toronto | 57.6m | 16s | Westbank | Bjarke Ingels Group

This project is a new era in Toronto condo construction. It has major wow factor. This and the Well, although not supertalls like a lot of people want, prove height isn't everything.

This tower is far from being approved as is. I expect there will be changes regarding the building itself, and the city's take on the proposal. A year from now we should have a better idea of the final iteration.

    Toronto 160 Front West | 239.87m | 46s | Cadillac Fairview | AS + GG

What's the point of that. It's a pathetic attempt at saving Toronto's past. They might as well tear the whole thing down. Facedectomy in this case looks quite silly.

Hindsight is 20/20, but i wish i had bought shares in any of the major concrete firms in Toronto 10 years ago. I'd be a richer old fart by now.

I just got back from Chicago, and there is a city that could teach Toronto about preserving heritage buildings. Very little facedectomy.

I'll bet there will be updated iterations of this project in the coming years. Maybe 3 verticals instead of 5. It's way too wide as shown above. There won't be any trees on top, for long anyway. They would end up on Front st. in short order. This project is a long ways off, and many changes to come.

The outcome of the court case will set the tone for future short term rentals. If she gets off with the old slap on the wrist " bad girl don't do it again" sentence, then i pity anyone who lives in a condo that allows short term rentals, like Dustin. I have little faith in the judicial system in...

I don't get that either. Her name will be released after she is in temporary custody. She will be charged and then released on recognizance. Maybe they want to get her charged before the inevitable threatening social media takes over and she goes into hiding. Who knows.

Yeah, my mistake. It didn't take long to find the woman in question. Police already know who she is, and are waiting for her to turn herself in. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/woman-chair-over-balcony-video-identified-toronto-police-1.5015881

Who gets charged, and to what degree is way beyond my purview. I would guess it depends on the actions and damage or injury. Airbnb will forward info at the request of police departments, and then charges could end up on the signee of the Airbnb rental agreement, and obviously the individual who...

    Toronto Maple Leaf Square | 185.92m | 54s | Lanterra | KPMB

A conviction of the condo owner would shed a different light on the whole airbnb setup. I personally wouldn't want to be in that position, no matter how good the money is. It appears the Grid Condos are also an accident waiting to happen. If there isn't a precedent already in place, then this...

    Toronto Maple Leaf Square | 185.92m | 54s | Lanterra | KPMB

Airbnb has a policy for Law enforcement requests regarding users. Seeing as there is video evidence, it should be quite easy obtain the required info. This case might be difficult, unless they can definitively identify the exact unit. If there are no other units at that height, on that side...

At what point does it become too cold to pour concrete? I would think it's not viable these last couple of days.

Toronto Manulife Centre Podium and Streetscape Renewal | 9.75m | 2s | Manulife Real Estate | MdeAS Architects

This whole reno is basically ugly. It doesn't blend with the existing building, and looks cheap. The responsible parties should be ashamed with the result, especially at a major intersection such as this.

You'll have another 2 or 3 years of that view, followed by 3 or 4 years of construction before it's all gone. Not many views in the core stay as is during this ongoing boom.

It appears sameness and bland design is catching on. https://www.curbed.com/2018/12/4/18125536/real-estate-modern-apartment-architecture

    Toronto Pinnacle One Yonge | 345.5m | 105s | Pinnacle | Hariri Pontarini

For those who are construction oriented, a question. The ramp the truck is on appears to be bedrock. The base of the building is right next to this ramp/ wall of rock. How will this then be removed without causing damage to the new structure? Maybe it's obvious to some, but i can only see a...
