Toronto GO Transit: Davenport Diamond Grade Separation | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

Sadly the Barrie line will be a lot less interesting in the coming years. I’ve heard VIA’s days of using it are coming to an end (within 2ish years).

    Mississauga Hurontario-Main Line 10 LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

Awesome shots. Let’s see if they actually install a dead end spur and switches at Burnhamthorpe for the future City Centre loop like Metrolinx claims they will.

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

The third track between West Harbour and Confederation is indefinitely deferred. This work is just a short segment of 3rd track and the tie-in. This portion of track isn’t that busy so the lack of 3rd track the entire way to Confed shouldn’t be the end of the world.

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

Some updates from today on the West Harbour GO track tie-in. This is one of my favourite GO projects right now. Grading between existing tracks and "new" corridor now levelled, and James Street bridge reinforcement complete: Liuna Station retaining wall done and grading looking good: Here...

Kinda a cryptic tweet from ONTC?

GO Transit Fleet Equipment and other

Metra has rightly been ridiculed for buying a six-axle freight locomotive for passenger service. Good luck accelerating!

So far, Metrolinx has not mentioned dual-modes. OnXpress has also shown interest in using as many existing GO assets as possible (ex the Bilevels). I personally doubt we will see dual-modes, and probably the existing diesel locos will run under wires on trips to non-electrified territory.

    Toronto Lower Don Lands Redevelopment | ?m | ?s | Waterfront Toronto

Thanks for the response. We don’t understand the value of freight rail in Canada.

As previously mentioned, GO will reduce train lengths to 4-5 cars with an electric loco. These things will absolutely rocket out of stations. Acceleration will not be an issue.

    Orangeville-Brampton Railway (OBRY)

Awesome intel. Those are not bad speeds compared to what we’ve seen in the modern era.

Sorry I’ve been out of the loop - is the freight rail spur indeed a goner? I know Toronto wanted it gone, and there was pushback. Unsure of the result, but your pictures seem to suggest that the track has gone away.

    Orangeville-Brampton Railway (OBRY)

Awesome historical docs! The last passenger train to Orangeville (and Owen Sound) was November 1st, 1970. I assume tracks speeds were allowed to degrade significantly after that, which aligns with your slower timetables compared to the ‘67 and ‘70 ones.

First contract released for Northlander train infrastructure works: Design, Production, and Delivery of Nine (9) Fabricated Passenger Shelters This aligns with the market sounding stuff we saw earlier this year (in other words, these are train not bus shelters).

Toronto Station Square + Park Lawn Gardens | ?m | 66s | First Capital | Allies and Morrison

Very curious how they build this underpass without major GO disruptions. We’re probably gonna get some more Canpa detours out of it.

Oakville Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital Redevelopment | ?m | 2s | Fernbrook Homes

The single family home and townhouse site seems to be starting to see action. Hoarding is down, brushing happened, and some machinery was on site.

    Orangeville-Brampton Railway (OBRY)

The 1967 and 1970 CP timetables show 1 hour and 18 minutes from Toronto Union to Orangeville using an RDC. I think you could get that down a bit using modern DMUs and some targeted banked curves. For reference, Google Maps estimates 1h10mins to 2 hours for this trip by car on a weekday...

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

There is a reason GO has been receiving and storing refurbished cab cars from North Bay for months now. Good things to come soon.
