    Toronto Alter | 107.89m | 33s | Tridel | a—A

not going to happen. All the podiums of highrise condos will not create a retail street we typically desire. Those retails often just serve the daily needs of the residents. Church st will just turn into another Bay st between Gerrard and Bloor. In 10 years, Church st below the village will...

    Toronto Aqualina at Bayside | 47.85m | 13s | Tridel | Arquitectonica

since when NYC and London are famous for their waterfront? oh, no one denies it is transformational. It is much better than before. Doesn't change the fact it is still sub-par for a city like Toronto. It is simply a jump from 2/10 to 5/10 in reality. Harbourfront centre area is pitiful and...

    Toronto Aqualina at Bayside | 47.85m | 13s | Tridel | Arquitectonica

I call this sugar coating and typical low Toronto standard. I see the gradual improvement and I like many of them. But overall, central waterfront is a massive failure. One would have to have lived in Toronto his entire life not to realize that. As to the East Bay, it will be more residential...

    Toronto Aqualina at Bayside | 47.85m | 13s | Tridel | Arquitectonica

The waterfront of Canada's premier city is a long lost cause. Whatever condos happen east of Yonge st is not going to change that. We will not have wonderful parks and landmarks. We will have some good buildings and some really ugly and offensive ones. And definitely nothing world class inviting...

    Toronto The Residences of 488 University Avenue | 206.95m | 55s | Amexon | Core Architects

Not "every corner", but for intersections within 3 minutes walk from a subway station, yes. There should be a law banning any building being shorter than 10 stories tall within a certain radious of a subway station. We do need some history, but as suggested, they can be moved somewhere.

    Yonge-Dundas Square/Sankofa Square (Brown + Storey Architects)

I agree with you. Some might wishfully think those signs are somehow "iconic" or represent something they don't. No, they are just failed businesses that were once well known. I wonder where we have a sign for Nortel? It is obvious in 10 years or 20, young people will look at those signs and...

High Speed Rail: London - Kitchener-Waterloo - Pearson Airport - Toronto

I bet the Chinese would finish the HSR linking Shanghai and Singapore via Vietnam earlier than completion of this project. Election time, always fun to watch. In Ontario, trains do not carry riders. They carry ridings.

    Planned Sprawl in the GTA

That's long over-due. One can't be selfish enough to be living within 500 meters from a subway station, yet ask the city not to building anything to provide other people the same convenience. Often it is under the pretext of preservation of neighbourhood character or safety for the kids. It is...

High Speed Rail: London - Kitchener-Waterloo - Pearson Airport - Toronto

good point. Time to change the title of the thread - it leaves the wrong impression it would like the TGV. HSR = 250km/h+, at least in 2017.

    King Street (Streetcar Transit Priority)

If they count as pedrestrian only streets, I feel very sorry. They are like 100 meters long. What matters are retail streets with stores on both sides, and hopefully people can walk for more than 5 minutes.

    Toronto Ontario Line 3 | ?m | ?s

I think if the line needs a name, it should be limited to one word and definitely not three/four words each representing a street. That sounds rather stupid.

    Toronto The Selby | 165.5m | 50s | Tricon | bKL Architecture

People who liked the colour in the rendering find it disappointing. I am not saying this is better or worse, but obviously the rendering shows a pretty different colour. It turns out quite different, and some people express their frustration, and that's justified. No need to be so protective all...

Cheaper and similar to the US.

    King Street (Streetcar Transit Priority)

Yea yea yea, this is why all the pedestrian only zones of European downtowns never get their stuff delivered by trucks. Hopefully Tonronto will have its first carfree street in 2050. We just need the cars for 1,000 reasons.

    King Street (Streetcar Transit Priority)

Only in Toronto to have one pedestrian only street is considered "drastic". "Gradual" sounds nice but in fact is just cowardness.

    Toronto The Selby | 165.5m | 50s | Tricon | bKL Architecture

It's not the people but the projects. Every time they show something bold and end up doing something far more conservative. This colour is disappointing and people have the right to feel so.

    Richmond Hill Yonge Line 1 North Subway Extension | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

Indeed. Yonge North extension should be considered a priority whatsoever. I don't even understand why it is on the table for so many years. Even extending Sheppard line makes more sense than Yonge extension. Of course DRL should come first.

    Toronto 365 Church Condos | 102.1m | 31s | Menkes | Wallman Architects

To be fair, urbanity is seldom about architectural beauty. Tokyo is extremely urban but most of its buildings are as ugly as this thing. Problem with this condo is that it adds density but doesn't add urbanity. On second throught, most of our new buildings are like that. They are just there as...

    Toronto Velocity at the Square | 122.52m | 40s | HNR | P + S / IBI

Not hyperbole (at least not intentionally). Dundas Square is ok and functional for a mid size city. That's the best I can say about it. Even a city like London deserves a better square than this. To serve as the main square for a city of Toronto's status, it is far from being OK. It doesn't...
