GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

Yeah, I was under the impression that a line requires 3 tracks in order to run express service. Hence why I was disappointed to see the Davenport Diamond guideway was only constructed wide enough to accomodate 2 tracks.

    Roads: GTA West Corridor—Highway 413

There's a lot of things the municipalities don't want. We call that nimbyism.

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

Between the New Year's Eve celebrations and today's lunar eclipse, it's fair to say that the GO network has certainly been pushed to it's limits lately.

    Mississauga Hurontario-Main Line 10 LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

What's more disappointing is that it's going to be difficult to justify spending the capital to bury the hydro wires now that all this time, energy and money was spent shifting the poles location and installing new ones. Which means we're going to be stuck with this cluttered mess for the...

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

Hopefully no one hits the yellow strip and everything runs smoothly. Lots of first time riders. GO transit needs to make a good first impression if it wants to attract more ridership.

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

Anyone got pics from Toronto Union station? Apparently it's packed.

    Finch West Line 6 LRT

Not to derail this thread, but perhaps building residential over all our industrial land isn't such a good idea.

    Streetcar Tracks on Adelaide

With this track replacement, are they installing different switches at the intersections so the streetcars don't have to drive slow through an intersection?

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

Did they have to set it up this way? Or was it poor planning/ execution? Designing the tracks so the trains have to go slow is extremely frustrating. That really puts a damper on this entire project for me. I hope it's temporary or can be rectified.

    Metrolinx: Other Items (catch all)

Translink setup a camera on the front of their train and created a time lapse video of the WCE line. I'm wondering if Metrolinx could do something similar for each of their GO lines. Could be a good promotional piece for the GO trains.

    The Coming Disruption of Transport

It shouldn't be a surprise that Rivian is burning cash. If the legacy automakers can't figure out how to turn a profit from EVs. Then what chance does a smaller company like Rivian have?

    Roads: GTA West Corridor—Highway 413

This is why I really want to see a freight bypass for CP rail get constructed alongside the 413. It won't be long before warehouses and other developments start building right up next to the highway. Making the possibility of a freight bypass less likely or more complex.

    The Coming Disruption of Transport

Depends on who you buy your hybrid from. Toyota makes the most reliable engines in the world. Small maintenance costs. If you buy a Chrysler or Mercedes? Good luck! Chinese government subsidizes Chinese automakers. Without government money all the Chinese EV manufacturers would have gone...

    The Coming Disruption of Transport

I never understood the huge jump from ICE cars to fully electric. Toyota was right to focus on hybrids. A plug-in hybrid will give you 40 miles of electric range when charged to 100%. Not as much as an EV which probably gets well over 200 miles on a full charge. But I truly believe as Toyota...

    General railway discussions

This is truly a bizarre story. What could have been the two men's motivation? It's not even like they were illegally renting them out. They were actually living in them?

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

Stouffville trains should stop at Scarborough GO in the off chance anyone on the Stouffville line wants to transfer onto the LSE and head towards Oshawa. I know, we're probably talking about 0.00001% of riders,,, but still. Maybe stop at Danforth if that's easier for MX, but then those riders...

TTC: Flexity Streetcars Testing & Delivery (Bombardier)

I am. I was in Vancouver last month where I saw and rode the Skytrain for the first time. I found them to be much more aesthetically pleasing that the street level LRTs we're constructing here in Toronto. I was in Calgary in January where the C-train track setup is absolutely atrocious looking...

TTC: Flexity Streetcars Testing & Delivery (Bombardier)

I would probably be more partial to LRTs and streetcars if their energy source came from underneath at the track level instead of the pantograph, catenary setup that make our streets look cluttered and messy. I hate the spiderweb of cables located at the intersection of Spadina and Dundas. I...
