    Transit Fantasy Maps

Idk if it is feasible, but maybe an extension of the 511 Bathurst to St. Clair West could happen.

    Orangeville-Brampton Railway (OBRY)

And the Beeton sub through it's namesake town. They put suburban houses on it.

    Orangeville-Brampton Railway (OBRY)

I REALLY hope they don't build on the ROW. Unfortunately I can very much see them doing so

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

Etobicoke North will need to me demolished before the new tracks can be installed and that is not happening until Woodbine GO opens

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

Would be nice though if they could buy it and fix it up. Both GO and VIA would benefit hugely from it

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

It's a shame that the arguments against the Don Valley layover site has devolved to just dumb nimbyism because there's a legitimate conversation in there on if this is the best location for it. As well, aside from Half-mile bridge what is the point of this being a trail? There's a trail that...

    Barrie Collingwood Railway (BCRY)

It is a pipe dream without a doubt. But it is one that I would love to see become reality.

    Barrie Collingwood Railway (BCRY)

That is a mistake. Sometimes it has used the Newmarket Sub, but only to the York sub to connect with the Bala subdivision. You can’t get to Washago via the southern half of the Newmarket Sub anymore

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

Makes sense. Wonder actually if they can get away with having a yard in Stratford instead of Baden. And maybe Goderich excursion train. Jk…. Unless 😳

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

To be honest I can see Stratford getting more use out of it than London. For them having significantly another means of accessing Kitchener, Guelph and beyond is undeniably a net positive. Plus maybe if they need to I wonder if they could maybe fit in a new yard in Stratford

    General railway discussions

That was just how things were then. The 80s and 90s was essentially “the great railroad purge” as CN and CP sold off and abandoned so much of their network. Some were warranted (I don’t think there was much of a case for keeping the Meaford-Collingwood section of track on the Meaford...

    General railway discussions

On the one hand I wouldn’t be surprised if that was the case. On the other hand having gone through many city documents both current and older (I am a Barrie resident with way too much time on my hands) I have not seen any evidence whatsoever of that.

    General railway discussions

And that is the problem, We still see rail as a thing solely for Toronto commuters. There's many more people who would benefit from that type of service: Vacationers, people who work in Barrie and Bradford, etc. As well, both The Canadian and Northlander used it before removal. Not just GO

    General railway discussions

Considering how much the ROW has been encroached on since removal and all the work the City of Barrie has done in regards to the waterfront it isn’t worth bringing it back now. But if the rails were still there today I’d say keep them

    General railway discussions

It would be a challenge yes, but not anything to warrant straight up removing the rails. For passenger trains having such a corridor that hits most notable population centres along the way would be beneficial. And it would do wonders for Orillia, it would mean you wouldn’t have to use the...

    General railway discussions

Removing the middle section of the Newmarket Sub was such a short sighted decision honestly. At the least CN didn’t get to abandon the stretch to Barrie

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

The difference with VIA HFR and a potential GO line is Peterborough in the case of HFR just so happens to be on the way to Ottawa and Montreal. A GO Line would most certainly go no further east than Peterborough.

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

Another thing with Peterborough vs. London: Peterborough is a) significantly smaller than London. And b) there is NOTHING between Peterborough and Toronto. The Peterborough Line is something I never see happening. Compared to London-Kitchener which has some people along it. Not a massive amount...

    Caledon-Vaughan GO Rail Line

Problem with assuming that YRT will fill the gap is that it’s YRT. As well, I’d argue a regional rail line serves a different purpose to a street running tram.
