Toronto Rental Cost (& AirBnB) Issues

But they can afford them...that's why they are gobbling them up as fast as they come on the market...that's why there are record numbers of units, yet a 1% vacancy rate.

Looks like The Steps could be back at Church & Wellesley...only bigger.:p

Toronto Rental Cost (& AirBnB) Issues

Don't let the headlines take your eye off the ball.....Toronto doesn't have a housing crisis (the housing market is very healthy)...Toronto has a social assistance crisis. Whose job is it to manage that...private landlords? Nope. Also, individuals have to take some responsibility and act a...

Toronto St Lawrence Market North | 25.3m | 5s | City of Toronto | Rogers Stirk Harbour

So in other words....nothing. Victorian Torontonians aren't the Druids....we know everything about them already. Straw man. You're wrong...it isn't a case of do "everything" or do "nothing" at all...it's a case of managing limited resources wisely.

Really? Such as??? I'm all for archaeological digs just as I'm all for subways. I just don't think the possible results are worth the limited time and resources being put into it any more than I agree with spending $3 1/5 billion building a one-stop subway extension to a suburban shopping mall.

Toronto St Lawrence Market North | 25.3m | 5s | City of Toronto | Rogers Stirk Harbour

Prior buildings on the site are well known. There's nothing remotely important to be be gleaned here. We are wasting what little funds we have chasing nothing, while holding up a multi-use building the city needs built ASAP. Meanwhile, real neglect/destruction with more significant historical...

Landfill. Ay least it will do some good to expand the Spit. Save our few shekels to spend on preserving something remotely worthwhile. It's like the Stollery Stone all over. Meanwhile, the SLAM is just a shadow of its former self down at the "tent".

Who's to blame for Toronto's real estate market?

I would be very skeptical of any opinion piece authored by right-wing nutter Lawrence Solomon.

Toronto Yorkville Village (was Hazelton Lanes) | ?m | ?s | First Capital | Kasian

This also has a lot to do with management. CF used to be owned by the Bronfmans, who went out of their way to hire architects like Mies and Zeidler to design show-stopping projects. CF is now just a soulless pension fund management giant, where they don't know or care about these things. This...

Toronto Rental Cost (& AirBnB) Issues

It all sounds like early campaigning to me. What does "revisiting" mean? Could mean visit...and change nothing. he he If they decide to apply the same controls as they do to pre 1991 rental units, then it is not going to create more supply by making it less attractive as a business. That's...

    100 Metre List

Jeez...that brings back memories. I remember starting the Toronto highrise count as a result of one of those legendary Toronto vs Chicago battles on Skyscaperpage about 18 or so years ago. It was an on foot block-by-block count to beat the Chicago numbers....there was no database. Toronto's...

Toronto Yorkville Village (was Hazelton Lanes) | ?m | ?s | First Capital | Kasian

It does fit a trend though doesn't it....all the most interesting retail malls in the city (all from that era too) are now unrecognizable...and not in a good way. Village by the Grange Market Square Queen's Quay Terminal Eaton Centre and now Hazelton Lanes

Toronto Yorkville Village (was Hazelton Lanes) | ?m | ?s | First Capital | Kasian

It's rather difficult to get excited about the current incarnation if you happen to be one of those people who remember the original Hazelton Lanes. It was special.

Toronto Rental Cost (& AirBnB) Issues

Of course it will. But that was intended as a political jab only. It isn't that difficult to figure out: The landlord business is market driven....it's part of the free market. People that can't afford to pay market prices for a free market rental should then be subsidized. And subsidizing...

As much as I hate Rexdale, I wouldn't wish that fate on them. Downsview would be another good area to rezone as a Clubland type district....Allen/Sheppard/Steeprock area...direct access to subway & 401. Closer to the 905ers who are the demographic for these places (and keep them away from...

Actually, the area is well served by various feeder routes with quick access to the subway (Eglinton, Lawrence, Dufferin, Caledonia, etc). At any rate, much better than the current situation at Cabana. (I wonder if Cabana has water taxi service?) And the only thing promoting drinking and...

That's because Tokyo is conservative, mono-cultured, and yet obsessed with western branded luxury. It is the antithesis of Toronto. It's just so huge, and Japanese culture is interesting (for a visit). Other asian cities are just worse versions of Tokyo. Singapore is fun...if your three...

Obviously the guy has a chip or he wouldn't be wasting his new membership on a Toronto forum spamming about how dull Toronto is with ridiculous excuses that insult our intelligence.
