    Toronto Love Park | 3m | 1s | City of Toronto

Sugar Beach, I get, like where else are you going to watch the sugar boats unload. But Love Park feels pretty similar to Berczy in terms of how it's used. They both have water features, they both have DOLAs, they both have grass and lots of seating. Are they fundamentally different in some way...

    Toronto Love Park | 3m | 1s | City of Toronto

I disagree! Anecdata, sample size of one, perhaps I'm not a representative Torontonian, whatever, but I've already gone down here a couple of times specifically to visit the park. It is beautiful, especially with the catalpa in bloom, and the people watching is top tier. It does everything an...

    Toronto Dufferin Grove Village | 125.03m | 36s | Primaris | BDP Quadrangle

I had no idea that the Toys R Us was once a fully detached Loblaws, now subsumed into the main mall building. I found the 1957 aerial view corresponding to that shot: vs. today:

Not arguing, just curious — what details do you think could be better?

Clearly the many people enjoying the park are confused and misguided, unlike our galaxy-brained friend who says we shouldn't have bothered to build anything nice because it might cost money and require maintenance.

There are plenty of trees, they just need a few years to grow in. The existing trees were largely non-native and many were unhealthy. The pond isn't dirty, they just need to fix the ozone treatment system.

Bruce Power: New Nuclear Generation Capacity

The province just released their energy roadmap: https://www.ontario.ca/page/powering-ontarios-growth I've only skimmed it, but it looks like there's all the new nuclear capacity we know about, lots of battery storage and hydroelectric pumped storage, but not much new large-scale wind or solar.

    Toronto Aqualuna at Bayside | 61.87m | 18s | Tridel | 3XN

Well, hope springs eternal. But also, we've seen the mockup of the balcony guards, and assuming no value-engineering (they wouldn't after building such an elaborate mock-up, right?), they're going to be pretty spectacular.

    Toronto Aqualuna at Bayside | 61.87m | 18s | Tridel | 3XN

This is by far the nicest exterior detailing I've seen on a Tridel build to date. I didn't know they had it in them.

I guess this answers my question about how they're keeping the soil from blowing away. Cool!

Problematic Park Design - Why Some Parks Don't Work

Thanks for the park review, @Northern Light! I appreciate your insights on park design as always. This makes sense. I have neither children nor dogs, but I do like to sit down in the shade or have a picnic with friends every so often. Despite this being the closest park to me, I'd much rather...

Maybe a silly question but how are they preventing all that soil from blowing away before the plants take root?

Bruce Power: New Nuclear Generation Capacity

Yup, buying power from Quebec is significantly more expensive than generating it here in Ontario. From the paper I posted upthread: As for competition from south of the border, power is not cheap in New England and Hydro-Quebec's export rates would reflect that: (via)

Bruce Power: New Nuclear Generation Capacity

I've been going down a rabbit hole reading about the Ontario electrical grid today and it's really interesting stuff. My initial thought: why not just buy more cheap hydropower from Quebec? Turns out that won't be a viable option because Quebec will likely run out of surplus capacity in the...
