Any info on that utterly bananas sculpture? Artist's name, title of piece?

Was surprised to see "Sook-Yin Lee" as one of the designers for the Electric Forest submission - wasn't sure if it was the Sook-Yin Lee from MuchMusic/Shortbus, but apparently it is! Sadly, even though I am a fan of hers, I'm not a fan of the submission. Northern Light and the early commenters...

Looking forward to some fun flooding visuals in the near future. Let's hope the site is "deluged" with them! (*groan*)

    Toronto Mirvish Village (Honest Ed's Redevelopment) | 85.04m | 26s | Westbank | Henriquez Partners

It's a mini-city! Looking forward to exploring this project when it's open to the public. It's hard to conceptualize how all of the pieces fit together. While I'm not a huge fan of the colour palette, and to some extent, the overall design choices, I do think the way it works with the rest of...

I do think there are probably some wacky financial deals going on here - I think you'd need a lot of unorthodox financing to build a project like this if you aren't one of the big established players in Toronto - but the article is about one of the lenders suing their Canadian legal counsel, not...

That view is incredible! The only thing I would add about the stairs discussion is that stairs-that-are-also-tiered-seats are one of the dumbest recent architectural trends. I work in a building with a set of those step-stairs, and almost no one sits on them because they are so awkward to...

I think the podium and the tower look great here. When the facades are more than just the outer brick of one wall, it creates the sense that the tower is safely nestled behind the still intact heritage building. In contrast, the one wall ripped off and pasted on the side of a modern building (a...

    Toronto KING Toronto | 57.6m | 16s | Westbank | Bjarke Ingels Group

It's always crazy for an ancient land-dwelling mammal like myself to consider, but almost all of the buildings in the above photo did not exist when I first came to Toronto, 25 years ago.

The designs are all great! For once, we are spoiled with many beautiful choices. Let's build them all!

The old Miss Thing's (and before that, WrongBar) is being turned into a Bowie-themed bar and live music venue. It's @groundcontroltoronto on Instagram:

It's true! Other cities do care. Torontonians don't.

And high-end customers are even less likely to look up - they'll arrive at night, hopping from their Uber XL or car service and stepping inside. Most people will spend less than ten or fifteen seconds outside of the building, and most of them will be busy looking at other people, not up at the...

People seem to be going crazy for that duck! And I'm like ... it's just a giant duck?

    Toronto Q Tower | 197.4m | 59s | Lifetime | Wallman Architects

Well, mediocre here will likely cut it, because mediocre will likely get built. Whether or not it "should" is a different discussion - but considering how much people get worked up about the DRP, I suspect that no building design would make folks universally happy.

Toronto GO Transit: Davenport Diamond Grade Separation | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

It is bananas to me how hokey-pokey the separation between the houses and the tracks are here. Standards for safety used to be so much different than they are now!

    Toronto Q Tower | 197.4m | 59s | Lifetime | Wallman Architects

I'm not a fan of this proposal - I think it's pretty mediocre. (Or as the kids say, "It's mid.") And the language from the press release is just off the charts cringe. But folks, the hyperbole! Every time you see the Water Club Condos, you gag??? I wish we could have a better condo here, but...

    Toronto 888 Dupont | 61.7m | 18s | TAS | SA

Mixed feelings about the loss of this building! I had a few close friends live in it, so I've spent a lot of time inside. But oh god was it a terrible space in many respects. No real washrooms in the units, poor sound and heat insulation, vermin, etc, etc. Also, the exterior is hideous. But...

    Toronto Waterworks Building Redevelopment | 47.55m | 13s | MOD Developments | Diamond Schmitt

Walked into the Courtyard yesterday, and tried to take some pics through the glass door. It doesn't look like the Food Hall will be open any time soon. I guess it might be next summer for the opening: This photo is from the Park side:

Toronto Sherbourne Common, Canada's Sugar Beach, and the Water's Edge Promenade | ?m | ?s | Waterfront Toronto | Teeple Architects

It's quite sad that the promenade trees are not doing well. As Northern Light points out, they really should have used a variety of trees to help avoid a problem like this. And yes, there are a quite a few that need to be just cut down. I do wonder if it has something to do with lake water...
