Wonder if the recent Federal announcements related to Purpose-Built Rentals will push up the timeline on this project. If it's still staying as majority rental, that is.

    Toronto Pearson International Airport

Ideally shouldn't be an either/or scenario. The Feds can pour money into the TOR/MON rail corridor while finding solutions for the Transit Hub. It would, however, require more political will and appetite to actually want to upgrade the transit infrastructure in this country than the Fed...

    Toronto Pearson International Airport

The Feds and Province seem totally asleep at the wheel in recognizing how vital the Transit Hub would be to the region. At this point, a possible 2026 win by Crombie for the provincial premiership could be the only thing to breathe life into this proposal. With her background as Mississauga...

    Toronto Pearson International Airport

If the Federal government doesn't want to spend Tax-payer funds to improve Pearson, then it's time they sell off a portion of the airport to a private investor. The current model of relying on raising fees to just tread water is broken, as Pearson already has some of the highest fees in the...

    Toronto Pearson International Airport

Making Pearson more "Green" is all well and good I'm sure, but it'll be putting lipstick on a pig if they don't significantly improve the passenger experience to one befitting of a growing global hub.

kudos to the team. Almost looks like a modern ballpark in the interior.

    VIA Rail

Will be tough to get vocal public support when the entire process seems very slow. The CEO is saying it'll be 3-4 years before they can even confirm how fast the trains will go. The scope of the project will be largely shaped by the speed of the trip so will be hard to get the public at large...

    GO Transit Electrification | Metrolinx

Could be wrong but think that it's constructed to coincide with duration of the Onxpress agreement. They signed the agreement in 2022 for 25 years so there is 23 years left.

    GO Transit Electrification | Metrolinx

Understood. There is also the concern of the BiLevels being able to handle the upcoming frequencies required as part of the GO Expansion. Existing internal layouts and the small doors would be limiting factors of the service frequency goals.

    VIA Rail

Its a big risk. The CEO should be doing the legwork to get the support of the conservative premiers of Ontario and Quebec to support this project in order to insulate it from the political winds in Ottawa. It's unfortunate that it's necessary but that's how things work in Canada.

    GO Transit Electrification | Metrolinx

Would these long term maintenance contracts handcuff GO to continued use of the BiLevels for 20+ years? I know as part of the Onxpress deal they agreed to use elecric locomotives to pull the existing BiLevels but wonder if there is some flexibility if Metrolinx decides in the coming years to...

    Toronto Eglinton Line 5 Crosstown West Extension | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

My worry about the elevated sections is that the underpasses become ugly blights similar to the Gardiner underpasses downtown. Was hoping they'd be creative and incorporate different materials into their design like is done in places abroad(like Netherlands, for example).

Seems like Pearson will pass its 2019 passenger traffic record(50mil) by next year if trend continues.

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

I've always wondered why Ontario doesnt explore building a new train station closer to the Falls and the attractions. Build the transit connections to where people actually want to go, not a station on the edge of the city. It would most certainly be underground and thus really expensive, but...

2024 Mississauga Mayoral Byelection Transit Plans

That would address the Milton line. Wouldn't a freight bypass still be needed for the Kitchener line to enable full two-way service?

    Quebec-Windsor Corridor

He also used that example in a previous interview with La Presse. 'The latter had notably mentioned the route which connects Paris (France), Brussels (Belgium) and Amsterdam (Netherlands). On the Old Continent, trains connect Paris and Brussels in nearly 90 minutes, reaching speeds of around...

It seems like corners were cut with that spur's design and construction. Possibly cause there was a deadline to finish before the PanAm games.

Radio-Canada interview with the CEO of VIA HFR. Could one of our resident french-speakers provide a brief summary?

    Quebec-Windsor Corridor

A private operator will be operating the HFR/HSR service in this corridor, according to the RFP VIA put out. Dedicated tracks will need to be laid as part of the project, funded with a mix of public and private money.

    Quebec-Windsor Corridor

It's definitely taken way too long but things in Canada tend to move at a snails pace so it's par for the course. This CEO has been making the rounds throughout Quebec and Ontario drumming up support, making speeches at Rail Industry conferences and Chamber of Commerce's. He also recently met...
