    A Hamilton Thread

I would love to see a separate thread for Hamilton (heck, its not even in the GTA. I am do not know why their developments are in a thread concerning "urban Toronto."). Maybe a thread about the rest of Ontario, so it can include places like London etc.

    Toronto 110 Eglinton East | 236.55m | 58s | Madison Group | Rafael Viñoly

I am not sure why we are arguing whether rust coloured aluminum will look good or not or whether it will be value-engineered, because we kind of know the answer: aluminum hardly ever looks good and the very choice of material has already dictated that it has been value engineered. Heck, we have...

    Toronto 160 Front West | 239.87m | 46s | Cadillac Fairview | AS + GG

The TD signage is waaaay too large. The building would look so much better without it, regardless of the fact that its oversized.

    Toronto St Lawrence Centre Redevelopment | ?m | ?s | CreateTO | Hariri Pontarini

I am not sure how I feel about the the loss of the heritage element (facade? Strip?) that was ultimately removed from the front. I get it: more transparency and a more coherent design. But I liked how the new played off the old and I liked the fact that you could view the project from Front...

    Yonge-Dundas Square/Sankofa Square (Brown + Storey Architects)

I do not want to be flippant, but if Dundas was not "abolitionist enough," find a Canadian who was, hopefully with a catchy name, and use that. Easy. It's historic, it's Canadian, it is part of our history and it serves as a counter to the fact that Dundas was not abolitionist enough for...

Few are arguing that this proposed station is done right though. ;)

    Toronto The One | 328.4m | 91s | Mizrahi Developments | Foster + Partners

So let me get this straight: they are going to try to sell the remaining units, in this market, with these interest rates, with all the negative press, and the stench of "receivership" and the prospect of legal claims and liens and maybe the building not being completed as designed...

    Toronto 80 Bloor Street West | 263.4m | 78s | Krugarand | Arcadis

Does everything have to be contemporary? For me, yes. A building built today ideally should reflect (the best of?) contemporary aesthetics and ideals. Otherwise, it belongs in Walt Disney World. Be an honest reflection of the times. Is that too much to ask?

Didn't they had a design competition for this?! hahahahahahahahahaha!

I can't be the only one here who thinks this is boring, bordering on awful. We replaced an innovated modern design with faux precast 1920s? Yuck.

Toronto St Lawrence Market North | 25.3m | 5s | City of Toronto | Rogers Stirk Harbour

Thank you for those examples and yes, I guess we are stuck with this look. One vote for "I think this is awful and really degrades an otherwise great building." but hey, someone must like this backyard toolshed look. ;)

Please please please put some cladding on the roof overhangs in the front of the building. Right now it looks like the underside of the cheapest of tin roofs. Attention to detail is everything and the details showing thus far are extremely disappointing.

This demonstrates what one can do with large parcels of land and tall buildings: and how horrible Sugar Wharf is and how little it contributes to the street level and pedestrian experience. If I bought a unit there, I would be very jealous of projects this good. (of course, probably about 80%...

    Toronto Sugar Wharf Condominiums (Phase 2) | 299m | 90s | Menkes | a—A

Sorry to repeat a post: The Quayside/David Adjaye development demonstrates how horrible Sugar Wharf is and how little it contributes to the street level and pedestrian/public experience. If I bought a unit here, I would be very jealous of projects that good. (of course, probably about 80% of...

    Mississauga 2077 Royal Windsor Drive | 97m | 29s | Slate | Gensler

There are plenty of nearby industrial/commercial areas that could easily accommodate a repair shop (if the market so demanded). This is silly argument (and I am being kind).

That landscaping makes such a wonderful difference. And we don't have to spend 5 years designing it and overplanning. Just plant trees. Native and strong to survive the stress of the city. And we have been waiting for 15 years for what exactly on John Street in the entertainment district...

    Vaughan Promenade Mall Revitalization | ?m | 35s | Liberty Development | WZMH

I went through the mall the other day and I could not believe its decline. Half the stores are vacant and the other half are the lowest end of retail. The mall could not have been more dead. And I do not think a few more buildings around it are going to save it. The mall is already surrounded...

    2023 Toronto Mayoral by-election

I think it was foolish to think this was going to be a Chow vs Saunders race (as someone here recently posted). I do not think he has any wide appeal besides a small right wing base. I can certainly see a Chow vs a centre candidate like Bailao. If the majority want to "stop" Chow, they will...
