2024 Mississauga Mayoral Byelection Transit Plans

https://dipikaformayor.ca/fast-track-2/ That's uh... quite ambitious ... to say the least

    Eglinton East LRT | Metrolinx

Toronto winters can still get bad, delays can and absolutely will occur on surface sections. It is entirely within the realm of possibility that you get to a station right as a tram leaves, and you have to wait up to 10m for the next one to arrive. Heck, even 5m can be rough for some people...

    Eglinton East LRT | Metrolinx

Sheppard Subway is being pursued by the province, not the city. Part of this project is operating on the assumption that the Sheppard Subway will be built for the northern leg of the line to connect to (although it's not the end of the world if it doesn't)

    Eglinton East LRT | Metrolinx

I'm less worried about how it's built, but rather how the assumptions they make impact the outcome of the studies, and the findings they'll present to the City. If they're using present day ridership statistics ignoring the impact of other lines being built, that will artificially boost the CBR...

    Eglinton East LRT | Metrolinx

That map showing the service patterns raises questions. Sure looking at present day bus ridership seems to justify doubling frequencies south of UTSC, but as I've brought up in this thread before, the new projects were building right now are almost certainly going to drastically modify travel...

    Toronto Eglinton Line 5 Crosstown West Extension | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

Maybe not when it was built in the 70s when YR was basically just Farmville, but if the Finch extension was built today I probably would be hyping it up in local YR newspaper as an important and relevant YR project.

    Toronto Eglinton Line 5 Crosstown West Extension | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

Why not? In its current state its hard to justify using the transitway when it doesn't get you anywhere.

    Toronto Eglinton Line 5 Crosstown West Extension | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

I mean sure but, the line literally connects to the Mississauga Transitway? Like sure, the line might not directly serve a significant part of Mississauga, but it will be used a lot by Mississaugans, similarly to how the Yonge Line (and particularly Finch Station) is heavily used by York...

    Toronto Union Pearson Express | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | MMM Group Limited

Its almost as if this myth of a post covid world that will signal the end of the commute was just that, a myth.

    Toronto Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

Hypothetically you can significantly increase headways with a fully grade separated line, something that isn't possible on the surface section. Full grade separation with (maybe?) improved signalling will signal a massive capacity boost without the need of any form of platform extensions.

    Canadian Highway Fantasy Thread

I'd agree if there was any coordination between highways crossing provincial boundaries as a consistent unit, but more often or not there isn't. There are only 2 freeways that cross the Ontario-Quebec border: 401/A20, and the 417/A40. The A5 and A50 just kinda end and awkwardly become King...

    Canadian Highway Fantasy Thread

Honestly I disagree. One of the things I like about each province having their own highway signage is it lets each province have an independent character when it comes to highways. Different signage, numbering rules, styles let the provinces express themselves in their own unique way, and...

    Mississauga Hurontario-Main Line 10 LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

Lines 8 and 9 are "reserved" for the Jane and Sheppard East LRTs respectively by the TTC. Presumably Line 9 will be designation of the route that runs between Sheppard-McCowan and Malvern town Centre of Phase 2 of Eglinton is ever built (let alone Phase 1)

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

This reminds me of how Ottawa changed the layout of Lincoln Fields Station of the O-Train extension, replacing a convenient spanish solution for a cross-platform transfer in favour of a design that required people to transfer by going up and over the tracks because they were concerned of people...

    Mississauga Mississauga Transitway | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | IBI Group

The problem isn't travelling on the 407, the problem is the station accesses. Its great, GO Busses are able to fly down the 407 at high speeds never worried about traffic, but the moment the bus has to leave the 407 to serve a Park and Ride or a GO/TTC Station, everything goes downhill. Existing...

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

To which the answer is "Much Higher". Trucks represent a much higher modal share of goods transportation in Europe compared to NA, where much of the traffic is diverted to Freight trains.

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

Anyone have an update on what's going on with the 404 widening north of the 407? This project has been going on for 6+ years now, and it looks no more finished than it did 2 years ago.

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

London is currently going through the project of separating and naming the various London Overground routes, and the whole project costs $4M for much of the same reason, needing to redesign/reprint maps, change around signage, etc. The Extra $3M there simply comes from the fact that they're...

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

Ask New York City why they have a subway station called "High Street" on the A/C lines, despite the fact that "High Street" hasn't existed in half a century. Simply put, most people are used to the station being called that and don't want it to change.
