Streetscapes from Elsewhere - Design Inspirations for Toronto

Toronto is enduring an extended growth spurt. Who knows what the gangly city will be when it grows up. Reports of it's demise are premature.

Not so weird when you think it might be quite unpopular. Can you imagine Ford saying during the last election period saying, " if elected, I will move the Science Centre... ", followed by thunderous applause.

    PM Justin Trudeau's Canada

You might be surprised to know that many Ontario francophones have no use for the Quebec " toothache". Asymmetrical federalism will work until it doesn't.

    Infographics - Future Toronto Skyline

Amazing work Steveve ! If this gets built as laid out in your various renditions, what an amazing skyline it will be.

A real shame. Does anyone know how long it will take to fabricate new windows, if this is indeed the case ? Then there's the delivery and installation, before final finishing. Can this developer wait this out ?

The list is a bit thin, but I like the Little Bluestem Grass.

At the very least, it keeps the Ford people in the limelight for their simple crassness as if another example were necessary - bread and circuses and buck-a-beer.

You're correct. Naming can be quite troublesome. I know those "politically incorrect" terms you mention as well.

Just don't call it " indigenous". Apparently, the term is generally frowned upon by native folks.

    PM Justin Trudeau's Canada

I agree with your assessment of the public's attention span, but if we don't address climate change issues and ramifications head on, there won't be much of a world left to worry about for we humans.

Not living in the city, I'm fascinated by the photography from unfamiliar viewpoints.

    Toronto Royal Ontario Museum | ?m | ?s | Daniel Libeskind

I renewed my 2 year non-resident membership today. I watched the Liebeskind iteration when under construction, and while interested in the complexity of construction, nevertheless was dubious about the functionality of the inner spaces. There were a lot of places for dust bunnies to hang out...

Two nondescript towers situated west of the Rogers Centre, helping to balance the skyline summits - that's all there is to know and all ye need to know. No amount of picturing is going to make this more palatable from a design perspective, but I trust the developer will make lots of money.

Some aspects of the building show better than others. I like this one especially, with Union Station and the Royal York hotel in the foreground. Even the otherwise undistinguished building on the south side adds some balance and counterpoint. I wonder if the designers had envisioned this vista.
