    Toronto | Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s

Stop spacing every half a km for a major rapid transit lines is going overboard (imo). If Eglinton was being built to serve mostly local trips, like the Finch West LRT, than a stop every 500m is totally reasonable. However, the Crosstown would be acting as a major arterial transit corridor (like...

    Toronto | Union Station Revitalization | ?m | ?s | City of Toronto | NORR

Metrolinx in their GO Expansion report noted that the narrow platforms are a constraining factor towards high frequency service as the current platforms cannot efficiently alight passengers. I will agree that the government should have had more foresight before constructing the platforms in the...

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

Good news is that the restored Kitchener trains will still make it to Union in 1 hour 43 minutes (about the same time as the previous express service). So they seemed to now have accounted for the upgraded Guelph section. Will be exciting to see how fast the the express trains can get to Union...

Toronto | Ontario Line (was Relief Line South, in Design) | ?m | ?s

*Knock on wood* I think the Ontario Line should be fine since it's using catenary technology rather than the Innovia technology that's used in Scarborough. Ottawa's frankenstein half-LRT half-metro made it through January's snowstorm without incident.

    TTC: Easier Access Phase III

Did anyone else pickup that Yorkdale's elevator opened? The TTC website says the station is now accessible. Strange that there was no formal announcement.

    Metrolinx: Finch West LRT

What reason would the LRV's have to stop at every station? Even on the Crosstown, there are stop request buttons on the Flexity's for the surface section (Flexity's stop at all underground stations). The general streetscape of Finch West is just as barren as Eglinton East so I wouldn't imagine...

TTC: Yonge North Subway Extension (Finch-Richmond Hill) (Funded/Planned)

Metrolinx did a rough experiment with the TYSSE under York U to see if those claims had any foundation: University lecture hall becomes testing lab for noise levels on Yonge North Subway Extension TLDR: TYSSE has a similar profile to what YNSE was supposed to be (20 metres/6 storeys below the...

    Toronto | Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s

Ah, thanks for the info. I just assumed this was something all intersections allowed. As for the Crosstown, I guess we'll just have to wait a few months to see how fast the test trains can go on the at-grade section (and pray they're not unbearably slow). I'm just going to be happy construction...

    Toronto | Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s

For VIVA Orange/501 ZÜM at least, they activate the "transit-only" phase even when the bus is just going straight through (it seems like all intersections are capable of this, but I could be wrong). I have seen it in-action on multiple occasions west of VMC. Granted, I'm only out on Highway 7...

    Toronto | Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s

On the VIVA rapidways, typically, the Transit signal clears the bus (and only the bus) through the intersection before the left-turn phase kicks in. Of course, this only occurs if there is a bus at the intersection. I don't see how this cannot also be implemented on Eglinton given that even York...

    Toronto | Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s

The Eglinton Crosstown website says about 38 minutes from end to end. 26 minutes between Bloor-Yonge and Kennedy.

    Toronto | Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s

The reason the "Line 5" bullet doesn't appear on station exteriors is because, from Metrolinx's wayfinding standards, the approaches or entrances to stations are to only denote the mode of transports available at the station. This is a breakdown from their standards pdf on how passengers are to...

    YRT/Viva Construction Thread (Rapidways, Terminals)

Oh, so it was worse than I thought it would be. Plus the map still shows the Major Mack VIVA stop at Yonge & Major Mack when that is clearly not the case. I think this just confirms everyone running the YRT have clearly never used the YRT.

    YRT/Viva Construction Thread (Rapidways, Terminals)

In the latest YRT service changes (for July 4) it seems they are trying to address the transfer issue by rerouting the 25 on: Harding Boulevard, Yonge Street, Hopkins Street and Addison Street. From my interpretation, the route they described sounds rather convoluted and not too sure what the...

    TTC: Sheppard Subway Extension (Proposed)

From what I found, the Hurontario line will cost $2.1 billion in construction costs and $2.5 billion in operational and maintenance costs. I don't think we have the operational costs for the Ontario line yet so I don't think that's a fair comparison (unless the numbers for Hurontario have been...

Toronto | Ontario Line (was Relief Line South, in Design) | ?m | ?s

I mean...I assumed that the DRL south project was too far along for there to be any major changes when Ford was elected and look where we are now. As far as I'm concerned, I feel like they will just rebrand it rather than make any significant changes (which I would welcome since I'm not a huge...

    TTC: Streetcar Network

Well, not exactly...but I guess its the same idea. On Roncesvalles, there are extended curbs, but they are designed for bikes and not wide enough for automobiles. The design I was referring to would kick automobiles out of the two centre lanes to turn them into dedicated transit lanes for...

    TTC: Streetcar Network

On the topic of giving streetcars priority, I was thinking that perhaps we could copy Melbourne in their format for giving transit ROW in tight 4-lane streets: The image is from a proposal by the Victorian government on what layout to use for Sydney road in Melbourne. I really like this layout...

Toronto Regional Board of Trade Regional Rail Report

This discussion actually came up in one of my economic lectures. I really liked my professors proposal in that the city should convert one lane each way on the Gardiner and DVP into HOT lanes whereby a lane is dedicated to high-occupancy vehicles while also offering single-occupancy vehicles the...

    Toronto | Transit City Condos | 176.17m | 55s | CentreCourt | Diamond Schmitt

Yes, SmartCentres posted on their instagram earlier this year last year of the LED's displaying an animated Canadian Flag. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to download and share instagram stories so I just took a screenshot. You can view it for yourself in their stories archives under #SmartVMC. It...
