Hi @Richard White. I am still lurking. Changed jobs and moved out of downtown a few years ago now so I do not really have any new content. Also got in a bit of trouble with the constabulary for sneaking past the hoardings at Union so I decidedly had to let go of my fascination with the building...

    Crosstown LRT | Metrolinx

So I got to wondering why the Crossrail contractors are so much more well organized than Crosslinx. It turns out they are inspected periodically for adherence to a set of best practices by a third party non-profit organization called the Considerate Construction Scheme. The contractor, sites...

    Crosstown LRT | Metrolinx

Yes I agree the projects have different requirements but even the Crosstown Jersey barriers are falling apart. I mean literally in numerous places along Eglinton it’s just strings of smashed up concrete chunks held together by the rebar. The contractor has clearly stopped caring/never cared, is...

    Crosstown LRT | Metrolinx

Yes the roads are beyond awful. At first I was willing to write it off as temporary construction related damage. But this project has now just dragged on forever, it’s gotten to the point where it has now been literally years of driving over the same potholes. Case and point of the ineptitude...

    Crosstown LRT | Metrolinx

Am I wrong here or is one of the reasons why crosstown is wearing everyone down is sloppy project management... it didn't really click for me until I watched this video. The decrepit state of the entire stretch of Eglinton quite frankly has me pissed off. If a sand barrel is broken... THEN...

    Crosstown LRT | Metrolinx

I see where you’re going here. And I somewhat agree. However there are very likely a lot more stakeholders who are impacted by the 25km LRT through the nation’s most populous city than there were for the entire stretch of the CPR. That and the fact the CPR steamrollered right through any...

    Crosstown LRT | Metrolinx

It is estimated that between 600 to 1000 men died building the Canadian Pacific Railway. Such a furious pace comes with great expense, I am not sure we would be willing to accept such costs in 2020. Edit: I just remembered that the Canada Heritage Minute ad that ran put the number at 1 man per...

I am not sure about any future plans to repurpose the kiosk space into something new but I am fairly confident the pillars are staying. Back in 2014-2015 they put in a lot of work to clean, regrout, and refurbish the marble.

I find this picture awesome. I was commuting through Union into the TTC every morning while going to school. This was back in 2015 just after they had closed the old Bay concourse and There was a very similar setup in the area with hoarding on both sides channeling pedestrians from the TTC up...

My chief complaint is about the quality of the lighting in the VIA. In the new Bay and York concourses the lighting is nice and bright and also has good daylight colour with a nice white balance... the lights are probably close to 5200K in both Bay and York concourses. Meanwhile the Great Hall...

Did the glass bridge end up getting built?

I think @union2pearson and yourself are referring to different staircases. He is speaking of the new staircase which run on a east/west axis from the east end of the level directly below the Great Hall down into the lower level of Bay Concourse. This new east/west stair will open soon as part of...

In your first picture here, is the opening in the ceiling above the stairs a three storey atrium right up from the new lower level Bay into the area just east of the Great Hall?

I read somewhere that there was litigation surrounding some aspect of the ceiling finish in this area of the promenade. I unfortunately cannot recall the source right now.

I had just edited my previous post right as you posted this. I agree re the area inside the red tape looks like the terrazzo going in.

Excellent picture. This last one shows quite a bit of detail. Lower right of frame you can see a completed stairway leading up to the promenade level sandwiched between two escalator pits. You can also see completed cladding on a few rows of columns. And if you look carefully at the ceiling you...

    Toronto | Ïce Condominiums at York Centre | 234.07m | 67s | Lanterra | a—A

I simply look at Airbnb like this, it should not be allowed in any situation where a group of people owns shares in a common investment. Buying into a condo, townhouse, or any other property with common elements is about buying into a shared investment. No minority party to that investment...

    Toronto | Ïce Condominiums at York Centre | 234.07m | 67s | Lanterra | a—A

Unfortunately it was explicitly written in the initial declaration which was provided by the developer (Lanterra) that short term rentals are to be permitted. Many owners purchased units in this development with the sole intent of renting these units on the short term market. I learned there are...

And here we jump forward to May 2016. This one is for the engineers amongst us. The column cutting has begun. The new main N/S corridor on the lower level under VIA, looking north from the Union Square stairs towards Front Street. Right now there are temporary ramps which run up to VIA from...

And here is some nostalgia. The old Bay Concourse, mid-demolition in December 2015. From near the old GO ticket office, centre of image is looking west. From near the old Tim's kiosk, centre of image is looking south. From near the old doors to moat & TTC entrance, centre of image is...
