I thought someone said the above tower portion would not have structurally supporting interior walls, only an elevator shaft? Have I got this wrong? thanks

I believe this floor, like the floor below, vertical members are acting as a transfer slab for the elevator core. If you have the space thick concrete with lots of rebar works very well for lateral shear force transfer and although labour intensive material wise is economic. Also attaching pre...

Looking at the latest renderings I believe they have over the years made a lot of simplifications to the building's structure however I would still estimate 5 years from shoring to final interior completion with a concrete frame, maybe six months less for a steel frame. That would be going very...

Philosophical question: Why not make its Northern neighbour a little larger, taller and preserve here? Looks like the floor area on the building's upper block could barely accommodate a full sized snooker table...

They have been going at an accelerated pace over the last two weeks. I'm looking forward to the hanging corner support construction commencing.

I think this is a great example of high density done right. Great work maintaining the pedestrian experience and heritage with an interesting tower set well back to view from afar. Nice job... More of this please in Toronto...

I think the density here on this block with the narrow streets will put the area in permanent shadows. Looking at the glass so far, a lack of its visibility from the main streets might not be such a bad thing... :). Just general note I'm fine with density done right. I'd be okay if one...

I always thought placing this large prominent building on such a narrow back street was a mistake .... maybe not ...

Not really feeling this .... Are we here in Toronto city building or running a value extraction exercise?

I have to admit I went by the base of cube house on Saturday and it really has deteriorated over the years. As others have suggested definitely wouldn't be a great loss if hopefully moved or worst case disappeared.

Looks like they are keeping the outside column forms in place to support the slab pour. My bad in suggesting they were slow in removing them.

258 condos in application sounds like these buildings are not going to be touched but perversely abused. Shouldn't these have heritage status? Losing the Irish Embassy Pub just adds insult to injury...

    Scarborough Town Centre Redevelopments

The larger east/west park on the northern portion of the property is interesting as is the lack of large building to the south allowing unimpeded sunshine...

While I'll fight for every brick in Cabbagetown this is one of those suburban areas that just screams to be developed at a grandeur scale. With the new Scarborough metro getting underway bring it on!

or possibly a super high end building with decent sized units for those with large amounts of deposable income. I suspect we'll see a mix. One thing for sure it ain't going to be cheap..

This is good news .... it will probably guarantee no future hybrid old/new tower conversion. The exterior of this one needs to remain as is...

While I'm not a big fan of tearing down the old or just keeping facades I am a big fan of the 1st phase of this project. Therefore, I have high expectations that the end result here will be pleasing...
