Toronto Wildlife

December 24

A brief pause - just long enough for me to grab the camera and fire off a few shots - before continuing its hunt.

The same airport live streamer who spotted the coyote saw what I'm guessing was an American mink, though not on or near a runway. (YouTube link) (and another with two of them).

Perhaps you mean the Common Merganser...
The wording in my post above may have been unclear. The photo is of a Red-breasted Merganser I saw recently at Sunnyside Beach. This is what the photo-ID (Merlin app) told me, seems to match the description, and they are apparently somewhat commonly seen there on the lake shore, at least at some times during the year.

The reference and link to the Hooded Mergansers is to another previous post some time back of two I saw on the High Park Lower Duck Pond, with the male one that was wrestling for a minute or more with a fish that looked too large for it to swallow.

Interestingly the Hooded and Common Mergansers are cavity-nesters, but the Red-breasted ones aren't.
