And the pillars of Don Valley station are looking a lot more concretey & a little less rebary:
The work on the supports is now visible at street level on Don Mills.
Just had a look and as if now the only other LSE shut down scheduled is June 6-7
Will they lower the completed bridge to match the grade of the GO tracks or will it be inherently higher than the latter?Story checks out.![]()
Imagine how much different this shot is going to look in 10 years time.
Can't wait for them to re-establish the lower Don Trail as it goes under those bridges and comes out at Lakeshore. I guess that's many, many years away, but that will be such a sweet direct route to the lake.
That's kinda funny. Just a big showy arch for the Ontario Line for no functional reason?
Or is someone going to say you couldn't have two bridges side by side with piers going into the Don for ice reasons. It's always the ice!
Are there even piers going into the Don with the GO Bridge? I can't tell....
The tracks predate the DVP, so when the structures over the parkway were built the only thing that might have needed closing would be the Don Roadway. To do the same now likely requires multiple DVP lane closures over a few months to put in all of the piers for a bridge.Hey I just noticed, how come the GO tracks don't have a big fancy bridge?
There's no reason it HAS to be this way, but minimizing disruption to the parkway is likely a high priority on their list, and so tradeoffs were weighed and this design got picked. Can anyone give a reason why the cable arch bridge HAD to be done?
Let's be real here, for many other 𝖼̶𝗈̶𝗎̶𝗇̶𝗍̶𝗋̶𝗂̶𝖾̶𝗌̶ organizations, a rinkydink 120 metre slab bridge over a highway and a small river would not require a few months period. Much less a few months of lane closures. To do the same now likely requires multiple DVP lane closures over a few months to put in all of the piers for a bridge.
