I disagree, I think it's feeling more like a major metropolis and will feel like Manhattan if the canyon effect is built up.

What stood out to me as ugly is how neglected long stretches of the historic Yonge frontage have become. It looks almost third world in some cases, even worse than Spadina now. These are all waiting for new tower projects to restore them into the podium but they're just straight up abandoned in the meantime.
I agree, this was fugly Yonge Street:

Doesn't help that the most interesting sides of some of those buildings (like the Massey Tower) face south.

Yonge is feeling a lot fuller and more canyon-ey these days. This development and Sky across the street will help a lot in building that feeling. Now we just need a vastly enhanced pedestrian realm to improve the poor walking conditions.

What about Spadina says "third world" to you?

I should expand, most of our downtown historic commercial corridors feel third world with how horrifically their heritage architecture is treated, so add Queen and College. Straight up butchered, plastered with garish signage, or even abandoned. Their owners almost never restore them and leave it to condo developers.
