Toronto Ookwemin Minising | ?m | ?s | Waterfront Toronto

Will Ookwemin Minising be completed and fully open this year?
The rest of Biidaasige park is set to be complete and open this year. The island as a whole is obviously far from complete and I don’t think there will be a timeline for any of the other public spaces until some developers are chosen for the building blocks.

The bridge should of been planned to be installed and in use prior to world cup. That is a nice piece of the waterfront that would of been a perfect time to showcase to the world.

Has anyone talked about this value engineering or design assist? Assist! You mean De-scope and De-lay.

Working with Cherubini, the project team introduced three key refinements: resizing the deck width to four metres, removing the lookout points, and adjusting the bridge orientation to be perpendicular to the channel instead of crossing on an angle. These changes shortened the total bridge length and reduced the amount of steel required by 25%, and vastly simplified transportation and installation by allowing the bridge to be delivered in one piece by barge along the St. Lawrence Seaway.”

They can saved 100% by not building it too. #%*^

Search, then write, and then search again.
This was mentioned in the Parliament Slip thread on the north side of the bridge. 🤔

New details on the final design of the Keating Pedestrian bridge from Waterfront Toronto. I have to admit, I am terribly disappointed by the value engineering on this one. I normally can put up with it, but this should have been an iconic piece of infrastructure and they have made every effort to cheap out on this thing. The seating and lookout areas are gone, the bridge width tightened, etc. I typically don't like to post anything negative as I find there is already plenty of negativity on Urban Toronto, but this is a frustrating one for sure. Only upside is that we now have a timeline. Expected to start construction in 2026 and finish sometime in 2028.

...bean counters and MBA's should not be redesigning bridges. >.<

It’s also super silly to require the extra high barriers. Can the city stop treating us like children? The original design was was much more elegant. Not to mention the accent lighting has no doubt been removed

Here’s an even cheaper idea. Throw a plank across the channel and we can walk it like a tightrope. Checkmate.

Does Waterfront Toronto publish the salaries of their members? I would be curious to see how many raises they gave themselves while projects like the bridge get delayed and reduced in scope.
