I know, "Ugh, spandrel!", and 11 YV is much-disliked here by most commenters, but I genuinely like the look of it. Personal aesthetic preference. So many Toronto skyscrapers are interchangeable, especially in terms of cladding, but 11 YV looks like nothing else in T.O., with its beige-brown colour (a welcome change from the ubiquitous blues and greens) and the classical setbacks of which I wish modern skyscrapers had more. As for spandrel, I am not a student of architecture or an architectural purist. My preference in skyscraper architecture is boxy massing and textures rather than massive, plain sheets of glass. 11 YV's metal window frames give it an interesting, intricate patina that it would not have without them.

I prefer the way it meets the street over a big wall of glass...

If it wasn't for the unfortunate choice of cladding here, the tower in question would have looked amazing. Right now, it's a person with all the good looks wrapped in a Herb Tarlek suit...

...as for this tower, it looks promising so far where cladding is concerned. /touch wood

Two weeks later, as seen from slightly further west:

Glazing installation has started at the northeast corner of the tower floorplate; it appears to be window wall (albeit a type similar to what is used at 8 Elm), but let's see how the forum responds to this:

That is curtain wall (and quite beautiful, too).
