Just a random thought but I wonder if there might be an opportunity to use some of the empty space in adjacent office towers as gallery space. But this brings up several questions: what are the ceiling heights of the empty space? Is it possible to create openings between floors of the office blocks? What sort of financial arrangements would make it worthwhile for both parties and what sort of lease? Has this been done successfully anywhere else? Would McMaster want to be a partner to create a university museum as UofT and McGill have?

McMaster also has a museum https://museum.mcmaster.ca/

Why did almost nobody dress properly for this photo op? JP makes like $210,000 per year, as does Rana and neither have a suit that fits properly.... And JP is wearing sneakers. The other people just don't have clothes that fit, or are appropriate and the second person in from the right is the only one that's dressed in something that doesn't look like trash. Why can our politicians and local leaders not dress correctly.

Ah ok, so this gets them 1% of the way there.
It's not even $1M, in 2025. I'm sure it helps with the planning and all, but even the article says 5-10 years- and that's probably if they can afford the whole thing.

I can't help but feel like this would all be alot easier if the City had a broader plan for rejuvenating the 'Civic Square' and vicinity. Any effort to un-fail those public spaces rather than gloss over them, but alas. That's a wholly separate conversation, so I digress.

It's so unclear to me how large this expansion is supposed to be.

The Spec reported that the residential addition could be 25-30 storeys. Here's a recent photo of the footprint of the site, which is currently built up on King but is proposed to build all the way back until it achieves a Main St frontage as well. The site has split zoning permissions, so a rezoning of the Main half of the site would be required, and they'd have to interact with the new LRT corridor holding provisions.

I didn't see the 25-to-30-storey mention in the Spectator [Edit: I see it now --- the original article has been updated]. I did see this in the official press release: "The facility’s permanent exhibit gallery will grow by 70 percent, and a 745-square-metre exhibit gallery will be added. "

I don't know what this means. Is the 745 square metre exhibit gallery addition on top of the 70 percent exhibit gallery increase? Isn't it all just exhibit space?
