Toronto Backstage On The Esplanade | 116.73m | 36s | Cityzen | P + S / IBI

Is this the home of the record breaking drug bust? Kudos.
No. The wonderful 25 The Esplande was.

I wonder if my dog sniffed out the car in the underground. I’m not sure if this was a monthly or daytime parker. Risky business.

I’ve seen the site plan approval drawings but can’t find a copy. I believe there was a public gallery proposed on the 2nd floor and then stairs down to the ground floor just outside your lobby. There was also a long hallway on the south side to a future connection for the Green P and then to Market Street.

As an owner in this building, I would love to find plans on how the bridge/PATH connection to CIBC Phase II is going work and look. Anyone have this info?
No plans for this in my archives, I'm sorry to say, but the ground entrance is suppose to be from this dark spot (below, my shot from 2018) behind the wall that the eagle rests on. Stairs ascend to a currently unfinished hallway that extends along the entire south side of the second floor of the above0-ground garage, IIRC. Some of the louvers that can be seen in the shot below would come out to make a connection with a new PATH corridor atop the bridge.

Awesome information, thank so much mburrrrr. I always wondered why do a connection to a relatively small condo building, but now it makes sense that it will connect with the large Green P parking garage to the east. This will be nice for resident visitors as it will offer indoor access to the building from Green P. Backstage has zero visitor parking. Hope it is well secured because it will be a busy corridor on Leaf and Raptor Home Game Nights!

Yes, useful info but it is really NOT good that even a NEW PATH connection is planned with stairs - have these people never heard of AODA?? (The stairs from the 'north lobby' area of the Scotia Bank Arena to the PATH that runs to the west of the Arena and overlooks Bremner is another example of VERY poor planning!

The City have just announced that Yonge Street is being closed 'for a few days' to deal with excessive groundwater at Yonge & The Esplanade. This document from the construction of Backstage seems to say it has been a long-running problem and, AFIK, Backstage have to pay annual fees for pumping out their sumps into the City sewers. See: http://www.downloads.ene.gov.on.ca/files/besr/RSC 215269.pdf

The CIBC square phase 2 PATH bridge touches The Backstage. Assuming this opens in 2025, I’m not sure what type of businesses would rent these adjacent retail spaces but they should have some good traffic from the street and adjacent Green P during the poor weather months. There is a Gateway Newstand on the ground floor now. A. few tenants have occupied the front east side store. (computer store, real estate, car rental)

Quick question- for the PATH connection, in the plans you posted above, does that roughed-in path connection connect all the way to the east side of the site to the Church Street Green P parking garage? Trying to make sense of the current path potential going eastwards into St. Lawrence.

@mburrrrr (who has more accurate info than me) may have already answered this but I think the answer is that there is no indoor link from Backstage to the Green P but pedestrians can (again) enter the Green P from the west entrance off The Esplanade and walk through it to Market Street - though there are certainly not proper 'sidewalks' for most of this trip. Of course the Green P is being renovated so god knows if you can actually walk all the way at the moment.

@DSCToronto is correct as noted in the post above. There is no link from The Backstage to the Green P.
As @interchange42 mentioned a few posts above, and I agree, there a was future allocation in The Backstage all the way to the east end of the property. I assume this is used for storage until/if it is ever required for a PATH.

It wouldn’t take much to add a PATH structure to link The Backstage to the Green P. My thought in red.

There are signs posted at the Green P car entrance “Not a Pedestrian Entrance”. There is no room for pedestrians but room for cars.

The first Green P pedestrian entrance is further East of 25 The Esplanade and before the Novotel where you can walk to Market Street undercover through the Green P “car paths”.

Great response but it raises more questions.

1. Who would be responsible for telling Backstage to change the 'storage area' into a passageway. Who would pay for any construction, cleaning etc etc??

2. Who would build (or pay for) any new section - The City, Green P or some new developer as part of their permissions?

3. Though the newly reopened vehicle entrance/exit to the Green P nearest Yonge says "No Pedestrians" is there actually anything or anybody there to stop pedestrians entering/exiting??
