[Strange Advance]

I know, "Ugh, spandrel!", and 11 YV is much-disliked here by most commenters, but I genuinely like the look of it. Personal aesthetic preference. So many Toronto skyscrapers are interchangeable, especially in terms of cladding, but 11 YV looks like nothing else in T.O., with its beige-brown colour (a welcome change from the ubiquitous blues and greens) and the classical setbacks of which I wish modern skyscrapers had more. As for spandrel, I am not a student of architecture or an architectural purist. My preference in skyscraper architecture is boxy massing and textures rather than massive, plain sheets of glass. 11 YV's metal window frames give it an interesting, intricate patina that it would not have without them.
