Speaking of YouTube, I watched a video today on Top 10 (Global) Megaprojects Completing in 2026. This project was included, along with the likes of the new metro expansion in Paris and a new nuclear plant in the UK. While I love this building, it’s a stretch to include construction of a single tower as a megaproject, especially when the other projects cover much larger areas and/or involve construction of multiple buildings and infrastructure. I’d like to think the content creator is a proud Torontonian, but I doubt it, as they still called it ‘The One’ (FYI the video is only 3 days old).

Putting the assumed joking aside, there would have to be significant economic reasons for doing this. Keep in mind this tower bankrupted the original developer here when the economy was somewhat better than it is today (read: pre-madman tariffs). So I can't see anything of this nature ever getting off the ground outside of fantasy thinking, IMO.

Seeing as how 1WTC is not significantly shorter than twice the height of 1BW, I think that if the Americans were to stop building today, it may take Canada 100 years to surpass it...assuming Mexico isn't the only Superpower by then. ;)

Mexico is already building a 484 m skyscraper in Monterrey, I think it’s just under halfway up now.

Mexico is somewhat under developed and often lacks the infrastructure or investments to build huge modern skyscrapers, but yea the USA specifically New York and Chicago will likely continue to dominate in terms of tallest towers.
 
However, the good news is Toronto is the fastest growing city in North America. So, despite the fact that we’re significantly smaller than cities like NYC, LA, and Mexico City we are growing quicker than them. And who knows Maybe I’ll go grab my shovel and start digging the foundations myself for burj Khalifa 2.0 in Toronto.
