They are definitely flattening out the park on this side of island and benches are going in...

The old firehouse is now totally clear of fencing and their washrooms are opened.

Oh wow. I knew it was going to be all-weather but I didn’t actually expect the washrooms to be open. Guess I’m just a lifelong Torontonian

The Plans for this area remain in flux, with a motion coming to Council next week, with confidential details, as the City tries to resolve objections by Ports Toronto and Lafarge Cement.

The attachments to this motion are now public.

From the above:

I will let other dissect how this varies from previous plans.

that's a lot of density for a small area with no public transit happening within the next decade and trafic is already hell... whoever is planning this needs to be fired

Been saying it forever, density on an island only makes sense if you’re Manhattan. Three ways off and the main route intersects with some of the worst rush hour traffic in the city (I think Bradford Bradford recorded at least 8 videos on Lakeshore citing this so it must be true).

It’s crazy how the two key streetcar routes for this are in ether. Queens quay east? Shrug. Blasting under the railway to continue south from the Cherry st loop? Yknow, past wherever the hell the new Cherry st Gardiner ramp is supposed to be? For the- are we still doing hybrid Gardiner?

Some giant brains at city hall already have the plans under lock and key right? It’s all worked out, it’s just a matter of choosing what option, right? We can’t be winging an entire development, right?

Heh. Envisioning what it’s gonna be like driving north on Cherry street, first waiting at Queens Quay for the streetcar to turn…then the light. Then drive 100m to stop at the light at Lakeshore. Then you get a green, but Lakeshore is backed up so nobody can clear the intersection…

Welcome to Toronto where the City is allergic to 4-lane roads and where any transit operating above 10km/h is illegal.

If you are going to live here I hope you like cycling - it will be a great place for that. Otherwise, good luck!

In fairness, its not like this will be built out in the next decade either. Plenty of time for transit to come, and hopefully the increase in density is being used as a carrot to upper levels of government to fund it.

I walk through this island all the time. I barely see traffic at all, much less traffic that is backed up, unless it's a red light. So, based on my own personal observations, and walking at different times of the day (and sometimes multiple times a day), over nearly a year, I don't see the traffic issue. Maybe with the Don Roadway now opened that may change? I dunno. But since the DR has opened, traffic has been minimal, so far.

I think Rebel events can cause traffic for sure but who knows if they will still be there in 5-10 years..

As for streetcars, I suspect the city could be waiting for housing construction to start or finish before building in the streetcar? Personally, I think the streetcar network should be set up long before construction starts. It feels like it's all a budget thing IMO.

What I'm more interested in is... anyone want to place bets if all the buildings facing the parks are going to be condos or a mix of rentals and condos?
