Habitat 67 is amazing because it was built 60 years ago and is a bit more organic in its forms. It was avant garde at the time. Plus, it teases the potential of modular housing units put together to make a single building. On the other hand, there's no weaving of new and old at Habitat 67, and the location isn't as good as King Toronto. It's a bit of an apples and oranges comparison.

I'd say it's definitely a Habitat '67 homage. Possibly BIG had been itching to do something like this, and when they got a contract in Canada thought it was good timing to try it out.
More comparisons will have to wait until it's finished and occupied, imo. I think the real genius of this design will be the glow it gives off at night from the units. Not just general lighting, but screens and other things like fluctuations due to movement within the units. Other than the scale, I think this will make for more interesting comparisons to '67.

Thursday morning, December 18: Level 5 cladding installation activities have reached the corner of the King Street facade and the west facade over the driveway. Much of the cladding along King Street is obscured by the hoarding for the legacy building facade restoration activities. With what can be seen of completed Level 5 activities along the east facade and the interior courtyard, this should leave only the west and south facades remaining for the Level 5 cladding - the two facades which have in the past been by far the fastest to complete.

Work underway this morning:
