Great news! This area is seeing a lot of change. Hopefully Laurier and Conestoga can use the facility. One thing that I discovered the last time that I was there is the area just to the west of downtown (Colbourne west of the river) has a lot of independent businesses in converted warehouses popping up that would get a boost from this facility.

Not a surprise.

Increasingly it's looking like the Bulldogs will stay in Brantford and Hamilton will get a new team - likely AHL or ECHL.
ECHL is more likely in my opinion - the AHL only seems to remain fixed to the number of NHL teams, and I can’t imagine that any AHL teams (with the exception of the Oilers’ Bakersfield Condors eventually doing so) will move to Canada, since many NHL teams own their AHL affiliates and keep them close for callups.

Anyway, this new arena looks pretty nice. Brantford is going through a bit of a boom these days so a new venue would be a good asset for the city. Brantford also seems like it would be a great city for OHL hockey as well. Hopefully Hamilton can get an OHL team back too after the arena renovations are done.

If it's AHL, I imagine it will be the Marlies moving down the QEW.

Hamilton will end up with some form of hockey, OHL or not. It's too large of a market. We'll have to see what ends up landing.
I don’t think the Marlies are realistically moving from Coca Cola Coliseum anytime soon - MLSE is pretty deeply embedded in the facilities at Exhibition Place and even have moved the Argos head offices and some fitness facilities into the arena. It’s also really hard to beat the location with GO (and Ontario Line in the future) access there.

Good for Brantford. There is a long OHL history in that city and I think this project is very worthwhile. Does anyone know what the plans are for the old Civic Center? I think it is still a serviceable building and could be used for community ice.

This is great for Brantford, a city of the correct size to really embrace the OHL. I love the OHL but it seems to get lost in GTHA cities save for Oshawa. What are the plans for the existing facility, I believe they sunk some money into it when the Bulldogs moved there.
