Cycling infrastructure (Separated bike lanes)

I suppose I should be pleased that Councillor Kandavel is backing the Kingston Road cycle track but his resistance to lowering the speed limit from 60 to 50 is puzzling.

Driving the 4km Brimley to Scarborough Golf Club Rd corridor at 50 adds a grand total of 48 seconds - and that's before you factor in the seven traffic lights, which pretty much erase any theoretical delay. 🤔

It really is amazing. The city and its contractor ripped out the original bumpy, yet usable path in early 2023 (the bumps were useful in slowing Mamils). That will be three years to rebuild a bike path and add some stairs to the Dundas bridge and a ramp to Riverdale.


My favourite part of this fiasco is how the contractor failed to survey the site, and thus only discovered after they scoured the old trail away that they needed more money and time from the city (at the threat of "down tools").

They did but did it badly. A child of 10 could see that the Don River bank was easily washed away (it did so in every big rain storm!) so why they thought it could support the supports for a staircase without very deep piling is a 'mystery'. Or simply incompetence!!
 
Lest we forget: this is the second closure of the same trail for multiple years around this area. Remember the other one from 2015-2017?
Oh yeah! I remember that one which led to the new Bellevue Underpass. At least now we have Bayview as an alternate route whereas it didn't exist at the time of that closure.

Easy. You look away and low ball the offer to get the job, and then beg forgiveness once the scale of the job is accurately reported, and demand more money and time.
 
Today's Infrastructure & Environment Committee meeting looks like it will be a long one! 56 speakers registered for the TransformTO item (a.k.a. Toronto's climate action plan) and another 51 speakers for the bike plan item (which includes Kingston Road). You can follow along at the YouTube link starting at 9:30 AM.

UPDATE: Item IE26.12 regarding Cynthia Lai Park will be debated at 1:30 PM followed by the bike plan item (IE26.6).

This took a bit longer than it should have......but there's a new voice on Bsky that will let you get a tiny bit of the news and information I and @TwoWheelPoli share .....maybe 40 seconds faster, if you're quick.
