I know it is needed, and I know $$ are not abundant and I know that, one day, it will be built taller but does it really have to look so boring?
I mean, they could always add exposed pipes and vents like they did with their other building behind it... >.<

They should have just waited for the funding and built the whole thing at once.
Why? They desperately need more and better space in Emerg and they built it so that the bottom floors can remain open when they get $ to build higher. It is not an elegant building but it IS necessary.

Social Media post from St. Mike's (Unity Health) on the subject of this project, today.

I must confess...........they state that this will open in Spring '26, which is at least another 9 months away.

Hospitals are complex, but that seems like an inordinately long fit-out.

Especially since St. Mike's is one of the only two Level 1 Trauma Centres in the GTA.

Interesting factoid for you...........

Chicago (proper) which is a smaller city than Toronto by several hundred thousand at this point, has 4 level one trauma centres.

Its greater area, has 7 level 1 trauma centres. (comparable in population to GTHA); Philadelphia, also smaller than Toronto, has 6.

All of Ontario has far less than that.

Now, granted, they have a lot more gunshot wounds to treat in Chicago....

Still, make me wonder, are we due to add additional level 1 trauma centres in Ontario?

Maybe one in K-W when they rebuild there, and another in the GTA?

Renders have those pipes removed.... 🙀
