I'm worried that I'm going to miss the demolition, so I try to check in here from time to time.

Here's the row of expropriated houses:

The city loses another of these oddball corners. Fortunately, it will be replaced by a bland expanse of glass.

The interior is very shelfy and has an strange little door.

There are still remnants of from the lives of the people who had to flee their lead and asbestos infested tiny houses.

This one was caught mid-way through a reno.

Thanks! It is important to document these TOD areas. And I’m sure that you guessed that the strange door is the result of a house with a raised basement having a street level shop added in front of it.

Adieu to formerly one of the better No Frills in the city, and these other businesses that I've never patronized before. 🥲

Yes, it was one of the best No Frills in the city, agreed. The plaza will always have a place in my heart for being home to the Consumers Distributing where I purchased my Super Nintendo. 😢

This was my favourite No Frills by far. But partly because I remember this plaza well when I lived in the area (roughly) many years ago.

I quite surprised that this plaza has not been knocked down yet. I'm a little sad to see all the houses go however. It was a charming stretch of Pape Avenue. Those poor people.

Er...why is this whole area being expropriated again? I presume the new station stop for OL doesn't need all that landmass. Or did I miss something here?

The houses on Pape are being expropriated because of potential impacts from the tunneling since the tunnel will be quite shallow. The plaza is being redeveloped, and the section against the rail corridor is being used for the tunnel portal. Further back in the thread, there are plans showing what's being used for the Ontario Line

Ah...yes, right here:

I don't believe Mx is going to be assembling any of this for the O/L

The Draft EA shows the footprint of the station on the north/west side , with the station box as it were, directly over the Gerrard/Carlaw intersection.

North is to the right in the above image.

As you can see the station and tracks will impact the plaza w/the No Frills, not anything on the south side.
...thanks for pointing that out and refreshing an aging memory. /bows

I passed by yesterday...it was a bittersweet feeling, as I miss this plaza, and probably the first time I've passed by in 9 years. It's odd to see the gas bar gone near Carlaw.

Odd that Choice demolished the gas bar and actually spent money repaving it given the imminent expropriation that has been obvious for years.
