GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

So it takes a lengthy investigation to figure out if an idiot that almost got killed has learned from their mistake, but they know instantly that horns would have solved it? Sorry, still sounds knee-jerk to me...
The incident was safety-related at a location that is an exception to the standard, so until it has been completely investigated, they have reverted to the standard.

** A recent update of the article says the whistles stopped as of 0300 today **

I suspect that the design requirements needed for a grade separation, over or under, in a residential area, or closure wouldn't make the neighbourhood happy either. They just want the sound to stop. They want the situation to return to the status quo as they know it.

My knee jerk reaction would normally be 'you bought near a rail line' but traffic has evolved over the years. It used to be a sleepy branchline, and Unionville used to be a sleepy little town. Neither are true anymore and I suspect none or very, very few of the people in the area were there when both were true.

I suppose you'd pay more in interest by building the pedestrian bridge a decade early, but that crossing is next to a senior's home. If even one of them has a heart attack because they can't sleep, it would probably cost the province tens of thousands in OHIP medical care and lawsuits - and that's just the financial cost, not the emotional one.)
If there was ever a successful action in circumstances like this, in Canada, I'd like to hear it. It seems the nearby building is a retirement home, not a nursing home. I don't sleep well either. I'm a senior. Who to blame.

I noticed the article attached to the CBC article discusses the advocate's angst about another crossing that is completely rural.

It seems to some, life is just too annoying.

Metrolinx was going to rename Exhibition Station to something like “Jackpot City Exhibition Station” until the minister’s office intervened.

Good that at least this renaming was quashed, but the Ford government opened the gates to this sort of thing already.
I thought you were joking until I read the article.

Can't wait for "House of Cannabis - Moss Park" station.

I'm always tempted to file a misleading advertising complaint over "Durham College Oshawa GO", given that it's such a long commute from Oshawa GO to any branch of the college.

Even with these names the Durham College part is shortened so it reads like DC Oshawa GO at times which definitely defeats the purpose of sponsoring the station. I know they do this in the schedules for Lakeshore East and I believe they do it on the info screens as well.

That's true. Light up the Bat-Signal!

The Brampton Innovation District sponsorship is arguably even worse because it doesn't save any money for taxpayers. The money for the sponsorship comes from the City of Brampton, who are completely funded by taxpayers.

So the renaming makes wayfinding worse without providing any financial return for the people being negatively impacted.

"Brampton Innovation District GO" takes up as much space as 3 to 4 reasonably named stations

The same is also partially true for Durham College Oshawa GO (but not Oshawa Via which is the same station), considering that Durham College is partially funded by taxpayers.

And don't even get me started on how many departure screens in bus terminals exclusively play ads instead of displaying the bus departures. What an insult to transit riders.

"Wanna know when this bus is departing or what the next bus is? Too bad for you, should have rented a car instead"
- GO Transit, probably (image from Route 41 at Bramalea GO Station)

They learned well from the TTC, where you need a telephoto lens or a telescope to see when the next train is coming unless you're standing right under a board.

When does dispatching switch over from GO to CN when travelling from Burlington to Aldershot. I've been noticing that westbound trains will sometimes stop slightly short in the platform at Burlington and then have to wait for permission to roll forward and align the accessibility platform. Is this due to dispatching switchover.

GO's tracks end and CN's begin at the signals at Burlington West, which is at the signal bridge about 600 metres west of the platforms.

There are no signals in the vicinity of Burlington Station that would cause the situation that you're describing, so I'd suggest that it has nothing to do with the signals at all.

Hey considering we’re going to elections twice soon who here is waiting to be disappointed that there is no Milton line upgrade in anyone’s election plans. But don’t worry somewhere wayyyyy behind the scenes they’re working on it.

First time i've had Google's AI search paraphrase my own writing back to me... Yet another reminder that the AI overview would happily parrot whatever I wrote on my blog even if I made my facts up (I didn't, but I could have).
