Restaurant Comings & Goings

Are there any good Fish & Chip places downtown with reasonable prices? I miss the London Fish & Chips place that was in the North Food Court of the Eaton Centre going back about 20 years ago before the big revamp. It was a mom & pop operation that made fried freshly battered fish before your eyes and the chips were of the UK style. They also had awesome onion rings. I don't know if they ever relocated.
Rodney's has a very good fish and chips at lunch for $16.50. And the place in the new Queen's Cross Food Hall is good too. Theirs is $17, but they do a half portion for $10, which is heavy enough for a lunch for me.

I haven't been, but Market Street Catch is now open in Scotia Plaza. The food at their restaurant on Market St is still good. And Buster's Sea Cove (from St. Lawrence Market) is open in Commerce Court, but it's a little more expensive.

It was good before the new owners ran it into the ground. I have seen this happen so many times to restaurants over the past few years. New owners take over, reduce portions sizes, rise prices, nickle and dime the customers and then place goes out of business. Dining out is becoming less enjoyable each year.

A prime example of this is the Gingerman at Victoria Park and St Clair Avenue East.

They Owners sold it and afterwards the prices went up but the portions sizes went down. They thought they could benefit from the local reputation but that reputation was based on good food at decent prices.

The previous owner was George Dafos of Jims Restrauant in Leslieville. He knew how to run a restaurant and keep people coming back.

Glad I was able to participate in the "Night Economy consultation" back in 2023!

I'd love to see new nightlife options enliven some of the dreadfully dull parts of the city, like Etobicoke.
